Brisket was our most consistent category this year in bbq cookoffs. We had an average score of 174.39 out of a possible 180. That is a really really good score for a team that only competed 5 times.
It’s so good in fact, that if you sort the KCBS rankings to teams that only competed in 5 or less contests… team You Need a BBQ is currently sitting #1 for brisket…. #1….. out of 962 teams.
Believe it or not, this is the second time we have done this! We also did in 2017 when there were 2234 teams in the mix and we were also number 1! Back then our average score was 163.54….. seems it’s getting harder and harder to win every year as all the teams score better and cook better bbq.

3RD OVERALL at Summer Grillin’! 🔥

Man, I thought today might be the day!

We put together a really strong cook at the Summer Grillin’ BBQ Festival in Leduc and came away 3rd Overall with three top-5 calls:

🐔 Chicken: 15th
🐷 Ribs: 5th
🐖 Pork: 4th
🥩 Brisket: 2nd

That chicken hurt 😂, but I’m incredibly happy with the consistency across the other three categories and especially pumped about that 2nd place brisket!

A HUGE shoutout to Smokin Outlaws for providing the brisket that earned us that 2nd place call. Apparently I just needed someone else to pick the cow! 😂🥩

Congratulations to Brisket Butts on the Grand Championship and Bigg Smoak on Reserve Grand Champion! Hell of a cook by both teams.

And a massive thank you to Roker BBQ for putting on a phenomenal contest. Great venue, great people and an awesome weekend of BBQ. We really appreciate all the work that goes into making an event like this happen.
