Season 2023-24 News Letter
Bishop’s cross country ski team information’s:
I am pleased to announce the return of our training program at the Old Lennoxville Golf Club ski venue, this will be our 5th year running the program.
There are 2 new additions this year, first the Orford ski club and Bishop’s have bought a snow making machine capable of producing artificial snow when the temperature drops down below zero, so it will secure the quality of the ski trails during the season, and of course we have the new groomer Prinoth which can recycle snow even when the conditions get icy!
The other addition is a good amount of ski equipment (skating and classic) that have been bought last year later in the year, including boots and poles. That equipment can be borrowed on training days to complete what is missing for your participation to the program (we alternate between skate and classic training session). You just have to show up a little before the scheduled session and I will be giving you the proper size you need.
First session will be on the 7th of December, 7h am to 8h30, please contact me if possible, ahead of time if you are interested of trying out. I will be accepting students that has been on ski prior to this year a few time (meaning that you have a minimum knowledge of technique, and you also have a good physical aerobic condition) as this is not possible to train with a group (that are moving around trails at some speed) if you are a novice who has never ski before!
I am focusing on teaching techniques with drills, no poles skiing, simulating movements to understand the basic biomechanics to learn both style (skating and classic). We will be having 2 trainings per week, we usually do them on Tuesday and Thursday morning 7-8H30 as it is the most popular time where everyone is free of class.
I also have been the head coach at the Orford cross country ski club for the last 22 years, I have a level 4 NCCP certification so you will have a solid support to enable you to see improvement as the season progresses. If you get really motivated and want to start racing, our venues hold a provincial race every year around early February.
So, as you can see, the opportunity is here right close to the campus to enjoy cross country skiing and discover one of the most complete physiological winter sports!
So come and join us this year, we do have a page so that you can directly write to me on Messenger to get more info’s if needed!
See you on the trails!
