A little late on this post... On Mar 2 our Rockstars got to show case their skills in an actual game setting with the help of some W.P. Sandin High School students. Everyone got the chance to play on a team and learn what it took to play the game. 🎉

At the end of our on-ice time we had a very special guest, Mrs. Marliese Kasner who came and did an off-ice presentation for all our Curling RockStars. We are very fortunate to have such a well decorated curler in our very own community, born and raised in Shellbrook. 🇨🇦

Mrs. Kasner not only talked about her time spent curling competitively but all the opportunities the sport has to offer a young person who has the drive and ambition to excel at something. Its a sport that has several different team avenues, for example, she played on a womens team for years but also played on a mixed doubles team. We loved listening to her talk about what helped shape her as an athlete. She proudly stated that she grew up playing various sports and being a well rounded athlete is part of what helped her excel at the sport. 🥌

It was interesting to hear how Mrs. Kasner started her competitive curling career at such a young age and traveled internationally when she was still in high school. She won Silver at the World Juniors in 2000 and Gold at the World Juniors in 2003. She has since made 5 appearances at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts with Team SK, medalling one of those years. She also medalled in the World Olympic Curling Trials in 2005 and again in the Canadian Mixed Double Trials in 2016. She has received numerous prestigious awards in the sport of curling, from All-Star awards to Most Sportsmanlike Awards, all of which she graciously showed us and passed around. 🏆

Thank you Marliese Kasner for not only sharing with us some of your precious memorabilia, but for all the time you have dedicated to the sport and giving back to our younger generation to educate and inspire the future curlers of Shellbrook! We were honored to have you with us and thrilled for the opportunity to learn more about you and your Curling career. We are so lucky to have you in our community. ❤️
