From painting and Christmas card making to Barnyard quilting, woodburning, scrapbooking and even cooking… our Arts & Crafts programming has been keeping busy hands and creative minds going!

Join Living History Algoma on Thursday, November 12, 2026, from 1:30–3:00 p.m. at the Theatre of the Heritage Discovery Centre – Ermatinger Clergue National Historic Site for an afternoon exploring Sault Ste. Marie’s past.

This month’s feature is Growing Up in SSM – 20th Century,” an oral history interview with Ed Houston. Enjoy a short presentation, local oral history showing, and an opportunity to share stories and take part in an open conversation about our community’s history.

☕ Complimentary beverages and a snack will be provided, and there may even be special guests connected to the topic!

📅 Date: Thursday, November 12, 2026
🕜 Time: 1:30–3:00 p.m.
📍 Location: 800 Bay Street, Sault Ste. Marie - Ermatinger Clergue National Historic Site

🌟 What a great day at our Seniors Active Living Fair! 🌟

We were thrilled to see such a fantastic turnout from seniors in our community! It was wonderful to see so many people connecting, learning, discovering new resources and enjoying the day.

A huge thank you to all of our amazing community partners who joined us and shared their programs, services, knowledge and resources. Your support and enthusiasm helped make the event such a success!

We’d also like to thank the OACAO and the Ontario Government for providing the funding that made this event possible.

Thank you to everyone who came out and helped make the Sault Ste Marie Seniors Active Living Fair such a great day of connection, healthy aging and community! 💙

🍂 We had a fabulous morning enjoying the beautiful fall colours at Hiawatha and learning more about nature and the important work of the Algoma Highlands Conservancy.

A special thank you to Ruth Koskenoja, volunteer with the Algoma Highlands Conservancy, for leading this wonderful walk and sharing her knowledge and passion for the natural world with our group. 🌿

Thank you as well to everyone who joined us for a refreshing morning outdoors. We hope you enjoyed exploring the trails, taking in the autumn scenery, and learning something new along the way!

Our Active 55+ Active Living Fair is almost here!

Join us on Wednesday, October 7 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Northern Community Centre for a FREE afternoon filled with information, resources, demonstrations and opportunities to connect with local organizations that support healthy, active and independent living.

We learned so much about seed saving native plants at Tuesday's Seed Collecting Walk & Talk! 🌱

A huge thank you to Abby and Bill from Clean North for sharing their knowledge, seeds, and beautiful garden, and for guiding us through the process of ethically collecting seeds. We learned how to gather seeds responsibly and use them to create beautiful native gardens that support pollinators and strengthen local ecosystems. 🌼🐝
