Scheer’s Carlson Gracie Team road warrior Griffin Maathuis was out for redemption after coming up short against the reigning champion last season. Determined to earn another shot at the AVA Throne II Super Fight Gi Title, Griffin set his sights on a rematch with champion Samson Haire.

Over the past year, Griffin worked his way through the AVA circuit, taking on tough competition and doing what needed to do to earn that second chance.

This past Saturday in Vancouver, Griffin made the most of the opportunity and made it a dog fight!! After a series of hard scrambles and exchanges, he secured a kneebar and forced the submission just 3 minutes into the opening round to claim the AVA Throne II Super Fight Gi Championship!

Congratulations, Griffin! Your hard work, dedication, and perseverance paid off. Keep ripping it up, On to the next one! ⚔️🥋⛓️‍💥🤙🏼

Congratulations to the Scheer’s Carlson Gracie Team crew who hit the mats this past Saturday at the CopaSask Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Championships!

The team put on a great showing, battling through some tough matches and bringing home an impressive 8 Gold 🥇, 4 Silver 🥈, and 2 Bronze 🥉 medals!

Well done, Troops! Your hard work, preparation, and determination were on full display. Way to represent the team with skill, heart, and sportsmanship. We are proud of all of you!

At Absolute MMA, Griffin Maathuis wasted no time making a statement. He secured a first-round victory via armbar submission, showing that when the cage closes, he’s all business. Griffin came in prepared, representing Scheer’s Team RingShark, and left with a definitive win.

Expect more to come from him after this dominant performance! A huge shout-out to all the family and friends who came out to support Griffin and the team, it means the world!

Special thanks to my pit crew, Blair and Kane, for helping keep Griff on point. And to all the team members and coaches too many to list, you’re the backbone. Without a strong team, a fighter can only go so far!

📣 Weather Update – Class Cancellation

Dear Students and Families,

Due to the current storm and poor road conditions, Scheer’s Martial Arts will be canceling all classes this evening, Friday, April 24th.

At this time, we plan to resume regular classes on Saturday, weather permitting.

Saturday, Scheer’s Carlson Gracie Team members stepped up and leveled up, challenging themselves as they continue their personal journeys in the art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

Congratulations to all of you. The skill, the focus, the composure… it was on full display. Well done. On to the next chapter. 🙏🏼⚔️🥋🤙🏼

Day 2 of this double-header weekend brought the Youth In-House Xtreme Grappling Tournament. A full house. 100 competitors. One mat space filled with grit, heart, and growth.

Every match was a test of spirit. Win or lose, you carried yourselves with class and true sportsmanship. That’s what this is about. We’re proud of every one of you.

To our volunteers, thank you. These events do not happen without you.

To our officials, coaches, and pit crew — timekeepers and scorekeepers — you kept things running strong all day. You all rock.

And to the backbone behind the scenes, the Saskatoon Martial Arts Association, thank you for continuing to support and drive these events forward for our athletes and families.

Happy Easter! 🐰🐣✨

Scheer’s Martial Arts will be closed Friday, April 3 through Sunday, April 5 for Easter weekend.

Adult Open Mat will still run on Saturday from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

Regular classes will be back in action Monday and will continue as usual throughout the school break.
