Cricket Cages Inaugurated in Saskatoon, Marking a New Era for Cricket Development in Saskatoon
Last Saturday (2nd May 2026), the spirit of cricket was on full display as community members, leaders, and athletes gathered to celebrate the grand inauguration of the Saputo Cricket Cages, a state‑of‑the‑art training facility set to elevate cricket development across Saskatoon. The event marked a significant milestone for local players, coaches, and supporters, reaffirming the province’s growing commitment to the sport.
The ceremony welcomed several distinguished guests, including Hon. Ken Cheveldayoff - Minister of Advanced Education, Zach Jeffries - Deputy Mayor and City Councillor of Saskatoon, Olufemi Johnson - Plant Manager at Saputo; Kamanashis Deb - Managing Director of Cambridge Home; Bishwajit Sanyal - President of Cricket Saskatoon; and Khawaja Mustafa Rashid, Harry Sandhu and Joy Sareen from Saskatchewan Cricket Association.
Also in attendance were prominent cricket supporters Tapankumar Bhatt, Mayur Joshi, Laxmi Patel, Anish Sheth (from Saputo) along with Coach Mandeep Singh, youth cricketers, and numerous passionate fans. The program was expertly hosted by Mehul Pandya, whose engaging presentation energized the audience throughout the event.
The newly inaugurated Saputo Cricket Cages represent a major advancement in cricket infrastructure within the city. Featuring modern, safe, and weather‑resilient training lanes, the facility will provide practice opportunities for athletes of all ages and skill levels. Coaches emphasized that the cages will play a crucial role in nurturing young talent and strengthening Saskatchewan’s competitive cricket landscape.
Speakers at the ceremony highlighted the importance of collaboration among industry partners, local government, and the cricket community.
