In case you haven’t heard, a development group consisting of investors from Ontario gave a presentation to Colchester County Council last week.
They are asking for the land of the former school site to be gifted to them, along with other concessions, in exchange for approximately 120 housing units, of which 20-30% could be deemed “affordable.”
No specific details were presented about the how the land would be used, but with 120 units, including a couple 10-unit buildings and a couple 30-unit buildings, one can only imagine that there wouldn’t be much natural beauty left on this property.
We have seen a large amount of support in the community to protect and preserve this property as a community green space and this project would make this goal all but impossible.
If you feel as we do that this property is too valuable to the community to be developed in this way, please reach out to your local councillor and the mayor of Colchester, Christine Blair at 902-897-3184 or [email protected]
Former Salmon River school site suggested during presentation; no further discussion made
