In case you haven’t heard, a development group consisting of investors from Ontario gave a presentation to Colchester County Council last week.

They are asking for the land of the former school site to be gifted to them, along with other concessions, in exchange for approximately 120 housing units, of which 20-30% could be deemed “affordable.”

No specific details were presented about the how the land would be used, but with 120 units, including a couple 10-unit buildings and a couple 30-unit buildings, one can only imagine that there wouldn’t be much natural beauty left on this property.

We have seen a large amount of support in the community to protect and preserve this property as a community green space and this project would make this goal all but impossible.

The Municipality of Colchester will be holding public meetings to discuss community survey results and potential development concepts relating to the former Salmon River School property.

Please join us online on Tuesday, May 10, 6:30pm-8pm, or in-person on Wednesday, May 18, 6:30pm-8pm at the Harmony Heights Elementary School (masks required within school).

The survey on the future of the former Salmon River School property is up and running. And while I have concerns about this poorly designed and potentially biased survey, it still provides an opportunity for residents to have some input on what happens with this property.
