Shuswap Ringette celebrates successful season for all divisions
As the 2025/26 season comes to a close, Shuswap Ringette is celebrating a year filled with strong performances and memorable moments across all age divisions.
From athletes just learning to skate to competitive teams earning championships, the season highlighted the continued growth of ringette in the Shuswap.
The Shuswap Ringette Open team had a great season overall and placed second in the Sweetheart Tournament in Kelowna in February. Open player Josee Huberdeau attended Westerns with Kelowna and was the highest scorer of the tournament, bringing home gold with the team.
The U19 Shuswap team won the U19 all female West Coast Classic Tournament, the Thompson Okanagan Ringette League (TORL) Cup Championship in their division and captured the Provincial Championship title to close their season.
Shuswap Ringette U16 team also had an exceptional season, medaling in every tournament they attended: gold at the Esso Challenge Cup, bronze at the Ring in the Holidays Tournament and gold at the Sweetheart tournament. The team finished the year as U16 TORL Cup Champions. Many of the team’s players also represented Zone 2 in the BC Winter Games.
Our u14 Shuswap players proudly represented the community on the TORL Zone team who won the Fair Play Award and placed 5th at Provincials. We also had local coach, Shelagh Pyper and player Ayla Pyper represent on Team BC, claiming bronze at the Sweetheart Tournament in Spruce Grove!
The U12 age group also had a strong season. Several Shuswap players represented on two TORL CI teams earning both silver and bronze at the Pacific Challenge Cup.
The U12 Shuswap Snipers, claimed the U12 TORL Cup Championship in early March and just returned from Richmond where they won gold at the BC Ringette u12 Provincial tournament.
The association’s youngest players had a fantastic season as well. The FUN1 program introduced new athletes ages 4+ to skating and ringette fundamentals such as passing and basic game play. The FUN2 group continued developing their skills, learning more detailed rules of the game and building confidence on the ice. They also attended the Sweetheart Tournament in Kelowna and proudly brought home a medal.
Established in 1999, Shuswap Ringette continues to expand its program and welcomes new athletes each season.
Youth looking to try a fast-paced sport on ice and gain additional skating experience are encouraged to give ringette a try.
Called, “the fastest sport on ice,” ringette focuses heavily on passing, helping players develop strong awareness, positioning, and the ability to make plays under pressure.
