🔨 Renovation Friday 🔨
"Not every renovation update is a fireplace..."

Not every renovation update comes with a dramatic reveal... but that doesn't mean important work isn't happening!
This week has been all about the behind-the-scenes projects that will help keep our club running smoothly for years to come.
💧 Plumbing work continues with the installation of a plumbing backlog presenter/preventer? (technical plumbing stuff!) and a grease trap, important upgrades that may not be glamorous but are essential improvements to our facility.
🎨 The back stairway has also received a fresh coat of paint, giving the space a bright, clean, updated look. Sometimes it's the smaller details that make a big difference!
While this week's progress may be hidden behind walls, ceilings, and mechanical rooms, these upgrades are laying the groundwork for a stronger, more efficient club.
Every week brings us one step closer to welcoming members back into an improved St. Thomas Curling Club.
Thank you for following along on this renovation journey and for continuing to support the future of our club!

🔨 Renovation Update 🔨
This week's update can't wait till Friday, is all about seeing the vision come to life!
The fireplace mantel has now been fully painted, and with the fireplace renovation nearing completion, it's becoming easy to imagine this space as the welcoming focal point of our newly refreshed lounge.
Meanwhile, painting continues throughout the club, and this week's photos offer a glimpse of the other projects happening. Here's another week of progress at the St. Thomas Curling Club!
This week's photos showcase several projects that are helping transform our club for the future..
Accessibility improvements are also moving forward with the installation of an automatic front door button, helping make our facility more welcoming and accessible for all members and guests.
Behind the scenes, water pipes have been insulated to help improve efficiency and protect important infrastructure for years to come.
Outside the club, our front sign has been relocated thanks to the team at Beamish Landscape, another step in preparing the property for future improvements and enhancing the arrival experience for members and visitors.
While some changes are highly visible and others happen behind the walls, every project plays an important role in creating a stronger, more modern St. Thomas Curling Club.
As we continue preparing to host the 2026 Canadian Curling Club Championships, it's exciting to see these improvements taking shape week by week.
Thank you to everyone who continues to support our renovation efforts through fundraising, donations, volunteer hours, and encouragement. We couldn't do it without you.

🥌 Monday Members Feature 🥌

This week we’re featuring Craig Carman, our dedicated Club Coach here at the St. Thomas Curling Club!
Craig’s curling journey began back in 1983 after being posted to Inuvik, NWT, where curling was one of the few winter sports available. And this wasn’t your typical curling experience, the club played on natural ice in an uninsulated building, where the temperature inside matched the outdoors and frost covered the ice!

What keeps Craig passionate about the game after all these years?
🥌 “The strategy of the game, playing chess on ice, along with the camaraderie and social aspect.”

One of the biggest challenges for him is adapting to changing ice conditions and speeds, something every experienced curler knows well!

When asked about his favourite curling memory, Craig shared how meaningful it was this past season when the club hosted the Little Rocks and Juniors Bonspiel. Watching young curlers enjoying the sport, building friendships, and creating memories reminded him exactly why curling is so special.

His favourite piece of equipment?
⛑️ His helmet — after one hard lesson, he quickly realized just how important it is.

Post-game drink of choice? 🍺
A Waterloo Dark beer.

Craig says his favourite thing about the St. Thomas Curling Club is:
“The social aspect and the friendliness of its members.”

And perhaps the best piece of wisdom he shared:
🥌 “Curling is one of the only sports that can be played at any age, from 5 to 85+. They say find and live your passion, and curling is my passion.”

Thanks Craig for everything you bring to the club and for helping inspire the next generation of curlers!

Can we get some oooooohs and awwwws over this beauty? 👏🔥

Because we're absolutely obsessed with how this fireplace makeover turned out! It's giving cozy, elegant, and "why didn't we do this sooner?" vibes.

🚨 We Left Peter Alone Again... 🚨
While renovations continue at the St. Thomas Curling Club, it appears Peter Inch had a little too much free time on his hands this weekend .
When no one was looking, he came up with this concept for the space above our newly renovated fireplace.
We're not entirely sure if we should be impressed, concerned, or start hiding the renovation plans.
In all seriousness, it's fun to imagine what our refreshed lounge will look like once all the work is complete. The transformation happening throughout the club is exciting to watch, and every week brings us closer to the finished product.
For now, we'll keep letting Peter dream big...
Just maybe not unsupervised. 🍷🥌

🥌 Monday Members Feature 🥌

This week we’re featuring David Kerr, our Vice President and Registration Chairperson here at the St. Thomas Curling Club!

David’s curling journey began back in the early 1980s at the former curling rink at the University of Western Ontario. Sunday afternoons meant curling four ends followed by a full Sunday dinner — all for just $10. Not a bad deal!

What first brought him to the sport?
“Something to do with my partner, now wife of 41 years.” Over the years, curling has become much more than a game for David. He loves the challenge, the competition, and especially the social connections that come along with it.

As for the most challenging part of curling?
🥌 “Everyone should be saying… HIT THE BROOM!” LOL!

One of David’s favourite curling experiences was serving as a team lead at the last Brier in London, where he also took on additional responsibilities for The Patch, helping contribute to one of curling’s biggest events.

Favourite piece of curling equipment?
🍺 “Beer glass.”

Post-game drink of choice?
A Triple Bogey beer or a cooler.

When asked what he loves most about the St. Thomas Curling Club, David was quick to recognize the incredible volunteers who help make the club successful. For the past four years, he has led the administrative side of the Kitchen Krew, helping support the growth and success of the club behind the scenes.

And one final message from David that many members will recognize immediately: “Register early as soon as it goes online in September!”

Thanks David for everything you do for the club and for helping keep things running smoothly both on and off the ice!
