Also appreciate the skepticism about the limits of the limits of the "physical chess" analogy: a further limit to it is that moves in chess are always the same (Bc1g5 is easily identifiable and always works the same way, even though the context changes), whereas physical fencing actions are much more variable and ambiguous. That sensory-cognitive component is a huge part of the sport.

It was great to see such excellent performances from our fencers at this tournament! I saw some epic comebacks, some snappy toe hits, some daring attacks in preparation ("interrupting sheep" style!), and even some inspiring resilience in the face of some devastating (and repeated) blade problems! Thanks for making it such a great tournament!
