Here is a picture of the DM heavy 8 that won the Calder Cleland in 1976! Many of the crew re-united this past weekend at Schoolboy. Hard to believe it has been 50 years! What is harder to believe is that Josef still has his HS rowing jacket!
From left to right Booie Mahoney, Norm Fournier, Paul Edmondstone, Dave Graffi, Mike Graffi Josef Van Ruyven and Coach Bill Van Ruyven.
Missing were Mark Mclean, Sean Dowd and John Confient. This is another great example showing that Rowing creates a lifelong bond!
CI's 50th anniversary is in 2028 hope to see them in the Grandstand!

We had a great turnout last night at Scorecards (pics to follow in another post) As many of you were aware there was a mystery crew that re-united last night the hints were:

1. It was a novice 145 Lbs. cox 4.
2. They won gold.
3. Two of them coached and stayed involved with the sport for a very long time.
4. One ended up winning a medal in the world Juniors.
5. Another put his oar down and ended up being in the top 5 in points for the storied St Catharines Blackhawks franchise.
6. The remaining member was from a long-time rowing family and sadly passed away in 2023.

The DM crew won the 1972 Novice 45 cox 4
B. Bill McAleese (long time rowing family passed away 01/09/23)
2 Greg Craig ( the Hockey player)
3. Mat Miller (20 plus year DM coach)
S. Jon Jaski (coach and current master oarsman)
Cox Matt Newman (bronze medal Nottingham 1973 cox pair)
coach Bruce Erskine (passed away 06/05/05)

Bill was represented by his sisters Patricia and Sheila. Bruce was represented by his wife Sue.
