‘Twas the night before the Christmas, when all thru the park, not a game was being played, because it’s clearly too dark
The ball socks are all washed at least within reason and packed away.. ready for next season
The players have been resting all snug in their bed… while visions of gold medals dance in their heads
And me in my visor, and coach Don in his hat.. had just put away all the rest of the bats
When out on the Diamond arose such a clatter.. I looked out from the dugout to see what’s the matter
Away to the clubhouse we saw a quick flash.. it was just Coach Don, drying off after the splash
Don’s perfect chalk lines on a newly raked diamond.. might just be, the best on the Island
When what to my wondering eyes should appear, but 3 more coaches and 15 players all near
With so little wonder, I knew in a moment.. that the greatest team must be team Thunder
More rapid than eagles Don coaches they came.. And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name..
"Now, Janice! now, Stacey! now, Fred and now Sarah!On, captains! on players! on, umpires and fans!
To the top of the fence! Or over of the wall.. Now fly away! Fly away! Fly away ball!"
So up go the batters, the balls they all flew, With all the practices, and fancy bats too
And then in Provincials.. we heard the good news, the other teams were now singing the blues
As I drew in my head, and was turning around, Down the 1st base line Coaches came with a bound.
They were dressed in athleisure, from their head to their toes , And their clothes were all tagged with Thunder logos;
A bundle of bats Coach Fred flung with rage..as he headed off to work in the old batting cage
Janice’s eyes -- how they twinkled! Stacey’s dimples how merry! Their cheeks were like roses, legs weren’t overly hairy!
Don’s little mouth was drawn up like a frown.. until he received, the coach of the year crown
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head.. Soon told the players they had nothing to dread;
He spoke not a word, but went straight to his coaches, They mumbled some words; then planned their approaches
And laying his finger aside of his nose, And giving a nod, up the 3rd base line he rose;
He sprang off his bucket, to his team gave a signal, And away they all ran with a hint of a wiggle
But I heard him exclaim, as the team won the fight,
HAPPY SEASON TO ALL, AND TO ALL A GOOD-NIGHT!
