Hi Folks,
It has come to my attention that there are some concerns raised about the ball hockey program in Rodney.
Firstly I would like to explain that the program is not simply a ball hockey program, it is an outreach program intended to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ. While the message portion is relatively short being approximately 15 mins long, this is its primary function and priority, the ball hockey is just intended to bring folks in the doors.
This program has been in Rodney for several years and has had several variations of age groups including younger children and teenagers, however when I took over the program which was just after the Covid Shut downs, it had evolved to be for young adults and older teens. Since then it has further changed to be mostly adults with a few late teens. Since there has been a concern raised about there being teens and adults mixed together I have had to evaluate who we can best serve and if there should be changes to the age requirements of the program, with that being said at this time I don’t feel changes would be warranted at this time as all of our regulars have been coming for at least a season (both adults and teens) with some participating for several years and to change the age requirement would be unfair to those players. Going forward for parents with teens, if you do not feel comfortable sending you teenagers to ball hockey then I suggest you tag along and get to know the current players, if after that you still don’t feel comfortable then unfortunately I cannot accommodate at this time.
Finally, it has been brought to my attention that some are concerned about the personal views held by some of our players and because of those views they should not be allowed to participate. While I do not agree with the personal view of others I will not start to judge who can and cannot come to ball hockey based on those views or their personal lives, however I will make judgement calls on players based only on how they conduct themselves while they are at ball hockey. As I stated earlier this is an outreach program intended to spread the Gospel and if everybody was perfect there would be no need for this program. As Jesus said in Matthew 9 v12-13 “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. But go and learn what this means: I desire mercy and not sacrifice. For I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance” –NKJV. If you are unable to keep any personal issues with other players from entering ball hockey and causing conflicts, then I have to ask you not to participate.
If you have any questions please feel free to reach out through the Rodney Ball Hockey Page
Thanks,
Tyler Clark
