Unfortunately, I've had to cancel the 2021 event due to lack of participants and the costs associated with holding a race. Ill be refunding the entrance fees today, appreciate everyone's support, and hopefully, we can hold an event next year, depending on interest!

2021 Race Update: Since Newfoundland & Labrador introduced the reopening plan earlier this week we can see a path forward to having a Gros Morne Trails race in 2021!! Tentatively we are setting the date for September 12th and 13th. We’ll continue to post updates as they come available. Here's to a return to "normalcy"!!!!

We have decided to cancel the 2020 edition of the Gros Morne Trail Race, not a big surprise. In the best interest of public health and COVID 19 it's best not to organize big gatherings. Don't let that stop you from coming to the Gros Morne and enjoying the trails, rumor has it we have had our last race on the (old) Gros Morne Mountain Trail to the base of the mountain, as there will be a new one to the base of the mountain (opening soon) for the race in 2021. Get your times in, as we currently have Seamus Boyd-Porter with the best time at 1:33:09, and Katheryn Cochrane at 2:35:03. Happy Running

COVID-19 Race Update

We are still uncertain if the event will take place this year.
1) Despite the Atlantic Bubble being opened up, Newfoundland & Labrador is still at alert level 2, where mid-scale community events, such as running events, are not permitted, and events larger than 50 people are not permitted.
2) I have contacted Parks Canada looking for some guidance on if the event can occur, and have not heard back. Parks has undertaken a major effort to get things re-opened as quickly as possible, while the race is important, I am sure the list of priorities is long, and ever-changing. We have to be patient.
3) I will cancel the race one month before the event, August 12th, if any uncertainty still exists, surrounding the issues outlined above, or safety issues with regards to COVID-19.

Kind regards

Steve Wheeler

COVID-19 Race Update

At this point in time I had hoped we would have opened registration for our 2020 event set for September 12th and 13th with the bright prospect of having some structural changes to the race, keeping the 2 days and 3 trails format, but changing, or altering some of the trails.

I keep delaying, and I will continue to do so. Much of the information provided by the Federal Government of Canada suggests that we will not be going back to “normal” until there is widespread immunity in the Canadian Population, which is highly unlikely by September 12th and 13th, rather there will still be some restrictions in place.

At this point it's not clear what those restrictions will be, therefore it would be irresponsible to open registration.

Until we can ascertain the safety of participants, and the local population, we will wait to open registration.

The 2020 race might be limited to Canadians, Newfoundlanders, people from western Newfoundland, with limited numbers, or even having to change how you fundamentally structure such an event. Time will tell. Be safe everyone
