My journey with CrossFit began after a heart attack three
years ago. It became the catalyst that finally pushed me to
take care of my health â both physically and mentally.
Like many people, I spent decades putting the demands of life, work, and everyone else ahead of my own well-being.
After forty years of running businesses, I was carrying an incredible amount of stress. My heart attack was a wake-up call. While my physical recovery went well, I was unprepared for the mental and emotional toll that came with facing my own mortality. It was truly a pivotal
moment in my life.
CrossFit has transformed me in every aspect of my life. In a way, my heart attack gave me âpermissionâ to finally prioritize myself and my health. Over two years of consistent training, I lost 25 pounds, lowered my A1C into a healthy range, improved my lipid profile to optimal levels, and gained dramatically more energy and confidence. Iâve also developed greater resilience to stress and recover more quickly from the inevitable setbacks life
brings.
While I enjoy the variety and challenge of the workouts, what I value most is the inclusive and supportive community. The coaches are attentive to individual needs
and limitations, and there is never judgment â only encouragement.
What surprises me most is my consistency. This is the first fitness program Iâve ever truly stuck with. CrossFit is often misunderstood; at its core, itâs functional fitness designed for everyday life â squatting, lifting, carrying, moving, and staying capable as we age. It prepares us not just for workouts, but for life and the unexpected challenges that come with it.
