Cops for Kids get rolling

A team of law enforcement cyclists set out from Kelowna on the 2026 Cops for Kids Ride, a 10-day, multi-community fundraising journey through the South Okanagan and Kootenays in support of children facing serious medical and traumatic challenges.

A team of law enforcement cyclists and support crew rolled out of Kelowna Friday morning, kicking off the 2026 Cops for Kids Ride, a 10-day journey to raise money for children facing serious medical, physical or traumatic challenges.

“Our team members go above and beyond not just in uniform, but in how they give back,” says retired RCMP superintendent Brent Mundle. “The ride is challenging, but it’s a small effort compared to what the kids and families go through. That’s what keeps the team pedalling.”

The ride is presented by the Thomas Alan Budd Foundation, and it continues a longstanding commitment to supporting children and families across southeastern B.C.

Over the next 10 days, the team will cycle from the South Okanagan through the Kootenays and as far east as Cranbrook, tackling some of the region's toughest terrain, including the climbs up Anarchist Mountain and Paulson Pass, before returning to Kelowna on Sunday, Sept. 20.

“It’s about honouring the incredible heart and humanity of our law enforcement. Supporting this ride is about more than fundraising. These men and women choose to serve, and then they choose to ride, to give even more. I’m proud to stand beside them on this journey,” says Tom Budd.

Each rider raised a minimum of $2,500 to take part, on top of a year of training, community volunteering and time away from their families for the demanding route.

Funds raised through the ride go toward grants for families whose children are facing significant medical, physical or traumatic challenges, offering support that organizers say can make an immediate difference during difficult times.

The team will make stops in 26 communities, and the ride has raised more than $6.8 million to support children and families across southeastern B.C

It's snowing at the top of the Kettle River Watershed now... Be BC AdventureSmart and ensure you plan ahead for anything that might change! (Including less daylight). It's a beautiful time to ride the Trans Canada Trail, the larch trees and vine maples start to really make pretty autumn colours. The river is cold, but sometimes the sun will still stay warm to allow for a autumn dip. Please if you must build a fire, have it only in established private and public campsites (not along the trail.)

DM if you have any questions about getting onto the rail trail.
