Talking about things under my control... here's what I did to my résumé first after the layoff.
I'd stopped updating it while getting ready for a big transition at work. It didn't even include my latest role, so I had some catching up to do before I could tailor anything.
I didn't know I wouldn't be part of that transition 🤣 Story for another time.
Here's where I started:
1. Found my latest version. I dug through my old résumés for a starting point.
2. Updated my experience. I added my most recent role as a QA manager in Moncton and thought about how those skills could carry over to other IT roles. With over two decades of experience, I also had to decide how far back to go. Some older roles came out so it didn't read like my whole career history.
3. Checked résumé formats for tech people. Summary or no summary? Where do skills go? What about education? I looked at examples from my industry.
Now I had something current. Next came figuring out how to personalize it for different applications.
