The Moncton Highland Games 2026 Broadsword and Military Sabre tournament yesterday went off beautifully! Unfortunately due to weather we had to use our back up venue. With 51 registrations from as far away as Rimouski, the field was competitive, comradely and excellent.

We'll be posting a full event write up with information on the results for all four divisions. Until then, here are a few pictures of our fencers, most of the finalists and a big THANK YOU to all participants, organizers and our partners at the Moncton Highland Games

The MSS Spring Tournament is behind us and what a wonderful weekend it was! Time to get ready for the Moncton Highland Games on June 13th - registration for which is open to all!

Thank you so much to everyone who volunteered and to all the fencers who showed up to do their thing!!

We had some no shows, and on the day of we had 21 fencers in Longsword and 32 in Sabre for a total of 53 registrations that were able to complete their tournament!

I am also very pleased to announce that this tournament saw the most diverse placement from clubs in the region since we started running tournaments in Atlantic Canada - every single club had members in A and the spread of club membership of winners in all 4 divisions was the most varied we have ever been able to report!

Further, this was our first run of our tournament software, developed in house by our own Liam Nolan - we are very excited to start debuting a made in Atlantic Canada solution for tournament management - the system is designed to work with our ruleset while also exporting HEMA Ratings compatible data and further, is using a matching making algorithm for all match making - no more pools! The system was a massive success and we cannot wait to keep building on it - we truly believe that we are working on a system that is going to be extremely useful for organizations that share our values and are interested in our rule set. The system we are building is designed to scale to a place where anyone participating at events are going to be paired to the most relevant matches and are going to be seeded to the most relevant divisions for them as an individual fencer. I believe very strongly that we continue to push towards very good things for our region.

Imagine a fencing world where you show up to the tournament, even one with 80 fencers, and after qualifiers you, no matter what, go to an elimination bracket that is populated with other fencers of your skill level - A and B are great, we’ve been doing that since our third event, years ago, but they aren’t the future, we can do even more. Imagine divisions AAA, AA, A, B, C, D - etc. - we are going to be doing some very exciting things over the next couple of years.

By day two, the ‘pools’ (division seeding), hit a groove, we were able to run over 70 matches in three rings in just under two hours. Excellent throughput and a tremendous indicator of our system’s potential as it scales!

For Longsword we qualified 8 for A and 8 for B, they are listed in the order of their seeding, 1st at the top, 8th at the bottom:
