Rivers Comets Baseball Club The formerly known Diamond Dawgs played in the Brandon AA Senior Baseball League. An idea was formed to move the team to Rivers to become the Rivers Comets

Rivers Comets 1964-1969: Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame. Induction class of 2012

In the six year span from 1964 through 1969 the Rivers Comet won the South Central League championship five times. In the other year they lost in the finals. In 1969 they went undefeated in all South Central League games, both regular season and play-off. Their perennial opponents in their league came from Boissevain

, Elgin, Glenboro, Oak River, Treesbank, and Brandon. At tournaments they played league teams and many others as well, and won more than their share of games. In 1967 they won the silver medal at the Western Canadian championship tournament at Govan, Saskatchewan. The coaching staff included Wes Walker, Reid Spearin, Doug Stinson, and Call Allan.

The Comets moved into first place in the North division with a 6-3 win over Wawanesa last night. Winning pitcher Nolan Wright, with Fred Hrycak in relief, posted 6K. Jase Wareham (4 PO) and Nathan Espenell (2 PO, 3 Assists) led the defense.

Fred Hrycak capped off the 4-run 5th inning with a 2-run homer. Owen Wareham, Hrycak, Scott Beever and Reddon Richmond posted doubles, along with Layton Veitch, Jase Wareham, Braden Clarke and Espenell combined for a 12-hit game.

The Comets travel to Oak River on Wednesday, June 10, for a 7 pm game.

The Comets improved to 4 - 2 tonight with an 8-0 win over the Young Guns. Scott Beever pitched a complete game shut out with 10 K for the win.

The bats were lively in the first inning - putting up three runs. A pitchers battle ensued resulting in a scoreless game until the 7th when the Comets added 5. Defense tonight was outstanding notably Nathan Espenell, Luke Hrycak and Layton Veitch.

Jase Wareham went 2 for 4 with 3 RBIs. Mike McFadden was 1 for 3 with 3 RBIs.

The second place Comets travel to Wawanesa on Friday. Game time 7 PM.

The Comets capped off a busy baseball weekend with a win, defeating the Reston Rockets 13-0. Hayden Mackadenski threw a complete game shut out on 86 pitches, allowing 4 hits, 1 HP and 9K. The Wareham brothers led the offense. Owen went 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs and scoring. Not to be outdone by his older brother, Jase also went 2 for 4 with 5RBIs, thanks to a 5th inning Grand Slam! Braden Clarke was 2 for 2 with 1 RBI, scoring twice. Nathan Espenell was 1 for 3 with an RBI, scoring twice. Also scoring were Layton Veitch, Mike McFadden, Redden Richmond, Fred Hrycak, Jack Hutton, Hayden Mackadenski and Luke Hrycak.

Congratulations to Dale Beever, winner of the 50/50 and Val Anderson winner of the Cj's Snack Shack and Mini Golf second chance coupon.

The Progressive Raffle early bird draw for $500 was won by Craig Anderson. Get your tickets for a chance to win up to $2500 to be drawn at the end of the season.

Thanks to all the volunteers who manned the canteen and beer gardens over the weekend. The perogies and garlic sausage were a hit.

The Comets travel to Brandon on Tuesday when they take on the Young Guns at Andrews Field at 7 pm. See you there!

The conclusion of a very busy Minor Baseball Saturday saw the Oak River Dodgers defeat the Comets. A busy first inning saw the Comets ahead 6-5. The Dodgers pulled ahead with 4 runs in the third, we answered with 1 for a 9-7 score. A 3-run rally in the 7th wasn’t enough. Final score 12 – 10 for the Dodgers. Offensively Fred Hrycak scored three times (1 RBI), Layton Veitch twice (2 RBIs). Crossing the plate once were Owen (1 RBI), Scott Beever, Jase Wareham, Hayden Mackadenski (1 RBI) and Braden Clarke. Mike McFadden also posted 2 RBIs.
