Lorita Leung Dance Academy (LLDA) was established in 1970 by Lorita Leung, and is one of North America's first and most reputable Chinese dance schools. From humble beginnings, it has truly flourished, and now offers: the complete Beijing Dance Academy Chinese Dance Graded Examination Syllabus (CDGES) Levels One through Thirteen; choreography and repertoire in Chinese Classical, Folk and Minority

dance; and an industry leading Contemporary Chinese dance program. LLDA also offers beginner and intermediate classes for teens and adults, as well as Summer Intensive programs for serious Chinese dance students. The mission of Lorita Leung Dance Academy is to offer top-notch Chinese dance training in a caring and professional environment. At the heart of LLDA is its faculty - a team of passionate professionals who value careful instruction, artistic excellence and authenticity of the Chinese dance tradition. Classes are kept small and are carefully divided by level to ensure that each student is continually challenged to reach their own full potential. Our students gain not only confidence and poise through regular performance opportunities, but also a sense of community and a deeper understanding and appreciation of Chinese dance culture. Unique to Lorita Leung Dance Academy is its Contemporary Chinese Dance program, which blends Classical Chinese dance with influences from Western Contemporary dance. The result is a dance style that is current, innovative and which truly reflects our locale as a gateway to the Pacific Rim. Lorita Leung Dance Academy is also home to the Little Panda Children’s Performing Group and affiliated with the renowned Lorita Leung Dance Company. Principal and Artistic Director: Jessica Jone

It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful yet sudden passing of our beloved founder, Lorita Leung on March 5th at the age of 85.

A pioneer of Chinese dance in Canada, she will be remembered for her lifelong dedication and contribution to Chinese dance. Backed by the unwavering support of her late husband, Norm, Lorita carved her own path in Canada with resilience, tenacity and a strong ethos. She was a visionary who never gave up. She set high standards for herself and strived for excellence with integrity and compassion.
 
Lorita was kind, generous and caring, and always took great joy in helping others. She poured herself into her dream with perseverance and grit, and leaves behind a school and legacy that will continue to flourish under the nurturing leadership of her daughter, Jessica and son-in-law, Chengxin. She will be dearly missed by the many whose lives she touched.
 
Details of Lorita’s Celebration of Life will be released at a later date.
