The program is perfect for skaters who want to learn to skate or improve their current skills. There are 7 stages of progression, each having fundamental movement components: Go Forward, Go Backward, Stop, Turn, Spin, Jump and Pre-Preliminary. As the skater advances, the components become more difficult. Once a determined standard is reached in each stage, the skater advances to the next stage. YR
SA also provides a Pre-School CanSkate program designed for skaters, ages 3-8, who have never been on the ice. The curriculum is challenging, rewarding and just plain fun. YRSA CanSkate program provides excellent fundamental training for those interested in advancing into figure skating, hockey or ringette. CanPowerSkate
Skate Canada’s CanPowerSkate program is the only nationally regulated power skating program in Canada. CanPowerSkate is geared to skaters aged approximately 6 or older who already have basic forward and backward skating skills (they must be able to skate the length of the rink using alternate strides) and are able to stop on command without the use of the boards. Geared towards hockey and ringette players and developed by a team of hockey, figure skating and ringette experts, this action‐packed, high energy instructional program focuses on balance, power, agility, speed and endurance. The fundamentals of power skating including skills, techniques and conditioning drills are taught in a progressive and sequential manner that emphasizes how the skills apply to game situations. CanPowerSkate provides an alternative to figure skating and is an excellent complement for those athletes playing on hockey or ringette teams. Its unique skill award program provides incentives and motivation for skaters to continue to achieve.
