This weekend much progress was made on the new dojo space in our new unit.

Many thanks to the teams of students of all ages as well as our parental “council” for lending a hand. Grateful to see my younger students pitching in with painting, furniture build as well as some big labour in the old space.

A true dojo is about community and family, transcending mere economics. I am grateful to everyone who is supporting us in our endeavour.

We are getting there and will be in our new space very soon.

Throwback Thursday today. As we prepare to move forward, we look back at some of our 53 year history.

Our Sensei, receiving rank from Shintani Sensei, striking a pose, sparring and demonstrating (thanks to Sue Lyon Sensei) for these photos ca 1980.

Last photo is me receiving instruction from my Sensei ca 1984.

If we can see farther, it’s because we stand on the shoulders of giants.

Go time!

While we were on vacation, work continued at our new location - painters came in and brightened the place up significantly.

On Labour Day, the boss returned to the grind in vain and started prepping the “toppers” for the offices and changerooms.

This weekend, we will continue the work - if you are interested in volunteering, let me know.

I hope everyone is enjoying a last long weekend before the school year starts.

I am back home and recharged and ready to go.

A reminder that we return to our regular schedule this week (including Monday karate class).

Many thanks to the team of black belts who covered things while I was away - so good to see things ran smoothly while I was away. (And thanks to my students for the kind message waiting for me - as well as leaving the dojo spotless for me to wash down the mats)

The first two photos are from the Louvre ca 1782 - I always find things Budo related where I go and proof positive that humans have always fought…..and that the labels don’t really matter.

Good morning from the shores of the River Deben in Woodbridge. (England)

I hope everyone is having a good final week of Summer Holidays. This week is a good week to ease back in to regular routines before the hustle and bustle of next week.

A reminder that we are on the modified schedule again this week. Regular schedule resumes next week.

See you all soon.

Kudos to Kitsune Ryu Yudansha Candidates this weekend.

Val tested for Nidan and Austin for Shodan. The test consisted of a written test on Friday night, followed by curriculum testing on Saturday.

They await their results now patiently. Meanwhile the training continues.

Weekend 1 saw some great progress made on the new space. Framing for new rooms done, rooms started to take shape, mat area has been framed out. Some painting to seal.

Many thanks to Jeff, Al, Irina and Wayne for helping Cathrine with this weekends projects. I began the long process of purging my office and keeping our current space ready for training.

More to come.
