The Richmond Hill Hockey Referees Association (RHHRA) is now accepting applications for the 2026–2027 season. The association will be hosting tryouts and interviews on Thursday, June 25, 2026 at Ed Sackfield Arena.

Current and former hockey players from the Richmond Hill Hockey Association are strongly encouraged to apply. The officiating program continues to prioritize individuals who are strong skaters, in excellent physical condition, and demonstrate a strong interest in officiating at a high level.

Officiating offers a competitive pathway to remain involved in the game while progressing to higher levels of hockey.

The RHHRA is committed to maintaining its reputation as one of Ontario’s premier officiating programs. The purpose of the tryout process is to identify promising officiating candidates and maintain a pipeline of skilled, passionate, and high-performing officials.

Congratulations to U13AA Assistant Coach Anthony Pacione on winning a Richmond Hill Sports Hall of Fame 2026 Sports Champion Coach Award. Anthony grew up playing high level hockey in Richmond Hill. He is now raising his family in town, and has been a Jags coach for many years, developing a new generation of Jags. Congrats Anthony and thank you for everything you do to grow hockey in Richmond Hill and help young athletes.

A big shoutout and thank you to U11 House League Coach Melissa Sambala for bringing the Christmas spirit to practice today! The smiles, energy, and excitement on the ice were a great reminder of how special this time of year is for our players.

This is exactly the kind of leadership we value in our House League program — coaches who create a positive, inclusive environment, support player development, and make hockey fun. Melissa’s enthusiasm and care for her team truly embody the culture we support.

Congratulations to Richmond Hill’s very own Matt Sgromo. Matt was selected to referee Hockey Canada’s 2025 Para Hockey Cup in Dawson Creek, BC.

Matt is well known for being a hard working and committed official who has given a lot back to Richmond Hill as he has risen through the officiating ranks.

This season alongside the First Shift program, we’re introducing more than 90 young players to ice hockey. Players were outfitted head-to-toe in Bauer equipment at the welcome event at Richmond Green.

The NHL/NHLPA First Shift program is designed to ensure a positive experience for new-to-hockey families. The program aims to take away any intimidation as it relates to equipment requirements, and/or rules of the game, remove potential safety concerns, and most importantly, provide an experience that is memorable and fun.
