We did it! First ever continuous 10km run is under my belt. Sub 1 hour as well! 2 weeks to GMS Queen City Marathon
Lifting has always come easy to me. I know 10km doesn’t seem like much, but it has been a struggle and a grind. Trying to balance strength training and getting the runs in needed to get here has been a big challenge.
As a former cardio hater, this is something I never would have fathomed 10 years ago, but I now believe there is a nice balance between strength training and aerobic fitness that will lead to optimal health and longevity as we age.
After 20 years in the fitness industry I continue to learn that our bodies are so adaptable if we provide the right stimulus and recovery. Strength provides such a great foundation for layering other forms of activity and fitness on top of it.
Let this post be a reminder to go for it! If you have a big goal, set up a plan for success and commit to it. Don’t let anybody talk you out of it because you are too old, too broken, too big or too small. The first step is believing in yourself that you can do it!
