LADIES AND GENTLEMEN
Thanks to all who participated in the 6th annual camp of Champions tourney. The dedication showed as you dealt with our mother nature moments was amazing.
Through the wet periods of the weekend (which was most of the it) you played during and around the elements and kept the games moving. It was tough sometimes but with the help of the players and the logistics crew , we were able to keep on moving.
now.. having said that ... WOW WHAT A WEEKEND !
From the midnight HR derby Party
-to the intoxicating movements .. some white folks call dancing (haha)
-
- to the amazing tent city which was spectacular ( which I wasn't allowed in without admission )
-to see as the motorist crossed the ferry and comment that it was a thing of beauty,
-to the grounds crew out there ( some soaked , some shirtless) digging trenches and getting blisters on the hands and feet.
-to the hamburger ladies keeping us fed and hydrated.
-to the Diamond Cutters and Balls Deep who played the wettest -craziest game in Quyon tourney history. Balls stopping in the puddles , players spreading their legs wider than they ever did for anything (lol) just to be in batters box and hit the ball. Players covered in mud and grass trying to make plays by diving and jumping into and over the watering holes. By the way it turned out to be one of the best games or the weekend (one run game)
the game played out like a Kevin Costner movie . not Field of Dreams.. but Field of Streams . more like Waterworld. (haha)
-to the injured players who still found a way to keep playing (Drugs and Alcohol....just saying) thank you and thank Narelle for her regular tournament free clinics .
- to the beer can pit that was used diligently by players (until the hornets took over) and most of all
- to the entire ball community that helped keep the camping and field area clean which made it easier for the Special Olympic Athletes to play their games without worrying about a ^% #$ load of garbage to pick up
For some reason the Quyon tourney has a day or two of rain each year but the sunshine comes through with the selection of the right teams for the right moments. All the teams this year were fantastic!!! With all the rain we appreciated all of the true tenters (well even the camper trailer people too lol)
Its seems that all had a great time and we raised some money and awareness for the Special Olympic Athletes who look forward to this event every year. Their dedication and preparation is only measured by the success of the ball players that come and participate the way you did this year.. So on behalf of the Quyon Camp of Champions committee We would like to say THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for another great weekend.
special shout out to PENNY LEBRUN WHO GAINED A GRAY HAIR OR TWO AND MAYBE A WRINKLE AS WE SPENT HOURS ON THAT DAMN SCHEDULE TO KEEP EVERYONE HAPPY..
