🐴 In the 1970s Linda Tellington-Jones went to study the Feldenkrais Method — a system of small, slow, deliberate movements designed to change how a human nervous system organises itself. Then she asked something nobody around her was asking: whether any of it would work on a horse.
What came out of it was TTEAM, and later the Tellington TTouch: circular touches made with the fingertips on the horse's body, light and unhurried, not quite massage and not quite training. The point is not to force a muscle to release. The point is to hand the nervous system a piece of information it has not had before.
She built it for the horses most people have already given up on — the anxious ones, the traumatised ones, the hard-to-handle ones who arrive somewhere new with a reputation attached and a long list of things they will not tolerate.
It is now taught in more than thirty countries.
Fifty years on, what stands out is how little it asks for. No restraint, no force, no equipment. A hand, moving in small circles, on an animal who has usually been handled with a great deal more than that.
