The truth sounds like hate to those who can’t handle it.
That’s why so many people would rather be comforted with lies than confronted with facts.

People don’t really hate you for speaking the truth, they hate the mirror you hold up to their lives. They hate the reflection that forces them to question their beliefs, their choices, and the stories they tell themselves.

They will twist it, deny it, attack you for it, or try to silence you. Not because you’re wrong… but because you’re right, and that scares them.

Luckily, the truth doesn’t care about feelings.
It doesn’t change to make anyone comfortable.
It stands firm, unshaken, unbothered, and undefeated.

You can ignore it, but you can’t erase it.
You can fight it, but you can’t beat it.
Because at the end of the day… the truth will still be the truth.

🕯 Prisoners’ Justice Day | August 10 🕯

Today, we honour the lives lost behind the walls of jails, prisons, and psychiatric institutions and stand in solidarity with those still inside.

At EFSK, our in-reach team supports women and gender-diverse people incarcerated at Pine Grove Correctional Centre, White Birch, and Saskatchewan Hospital. We provide one-on-one support, connect individuals to essential resources, and monitor conditions of confinement to ensure dignity and care are not denied.

📊 As of August 2025, approximately:
• Pine Grove Correctional Centre: 222
• White Birch: 31
• Saskatchewan Hospital (SHNB): 59
• Women's Reintegration Unit: 7

These are not just numbers. They are people who deserve support, connection, and safety.

Prisoners’ Justice Day began in 1975 in response to the in-custody deaths of Edward Nalon and Robert Landers. It remains a powerful reminder of the urgent need for systemic change.

We continue to call for:
• Investments in diversion programming and alternatives to custody
• Meaningful programming and reintegration planning
• Strategies to reduce Indigenous over-representation
• Trauma-informed training for correctional staff and prosecutors
• Equitable access to legal support and family connection

A more just and humane system is possible. We walk alongside those impacted, and we don’t stop at prison walls.
