The 2026 season has started! On Sunday, May 3 we held our Opening Day Tournament and Potluck dinner. We had perfect weather, a great turnout, two fun games and a fantastic meal. A few new folks came out to give lawn bowling a try as well. The winning team of the day included (left to right) Joan Hollingsworth, Brian Burroughs and Linda How!

Powell River Lawn Bowling Club members (left to right) Brian Burroughs, Len Mimeault, Jeannette Russell, John McLean and Bob Simonar all represented our club last year at the Presidents' Cup in Courtenay and came home with the trophy.

We are hoping this years' teams will bring the trophy back home again when they compete in Nanaimo on May 14. We wish our teams the best of luck! Go Powell River!

Opening Day and Play Times!

Our 2026 season Opening Day and Potluck will be held on Sunday, May 3 at 1:00 pm! The Potluck only will still be held at 5:00 if it rains. Raindate to bowl will be Tuesday, May 5 at 6:30 pm.

Regular Bowling Nights will be held on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 6:45 pm!

The club will also be open for Practice Times on Sundays and Thursdays at 12:45 and Wednesday evenings at 6:45 pm. Members can practise on their own or find a team or two to play.

The Powell River Lawn Bowling Club wound up the 2025 season with a Fun Day!

Bowlers were challenged by playing each end doing something totally different than the norm! Players had to bowl for example, with their non-dominant hand, then all players played as normal but then threw out the jack to determine the winner of the end, then each player switched roles and skips had to be thirds, thirds leads and leads skips. Play changed every end in two ten end games! And each end was a new and fun challenge!

The winners were determined by the number of ends won and that team was presented with a very prestigious winners sign. Check it out in the photo of our winners: Tom Chisholm, Sharon Shultz and Elaine Marentette.

Everyone enjoyed a great BBQ prepared by our super chefs Wendy Larkin and Brian Miller!

It was a very warm day, but there were still many exciting ends! Everyone enjoyed a great potluck dinner following the event.

Thanks to all of the participants as well as Deb Stroomer, Linda How, Claudette Brown, Tom Chisholm and Brian Burroughs for helping to prepare the greens, get things set up, score, and clean up after the event!

Some folks had to leave right after the tournament, but we got photos of some of the winners below.

Thanks so much to our Sponsors Warren Behan at Royal LePage for sponsoring the tournament and Panago Pizza for providing the delicious pizza dinner for our Dunlop Memorial Hawaaiian Tournament!

This tournament is a special fun one we have every year to honour two brothers, Ken and Fred Dunlop, who gave so much of their time and hard work to the club for many, many years! We miss and honour them both!

The big 50/50 draw took place and the lucky winner was Evelyn Seymour! She and her husband gave back a very generous donation to the club in appreciation.

A huge thanks to our super fundraiser-in-chief, Claudette Brown for ordering the tickets, organizing her team of sellers, for selling with her partner-in-crime, our fantastic greenskeeper Tom Chisholm and others and then tearing apart all the tickets for the draw (thanks Josie and Lisa too) and for supervising the draw.

Tom and team, thanks for preparing the greens and perimeter so beautifully!

Our 50/50 Winner!

We wish to congratulate Evelyn Seymour, winner of the Powell River Lawn Bowling Club's 50/50 Draw! She and her husband said they were humbled by the win and already have some plans in mind for how they will use their winnings.

We especially thank the Seymours for a most generous donation back to the club and hope they are able to complete one of their projects soon! We thank them and every single person who supported the club by purchasing a ticket or multiple tickets in some cases.

We thank devoted Board Member Claudette Brown for running the draw with the assistance of Sharon Shultz, Treasurer and a devoted team of sales people who sat outside Quality Foods every Tuesday and Friday during June and July! A big thanks to Quality Foods for providing the table and chairs and allowing us to do so each week!
