Lingcod and rockfish opened up on the westcoast of Vancouver Island. May 1st is when they open on the inside. Now is the time to stock up and get ready for the season. My favorite jigs for the lingcod are the for the rockfish I love the , and the all by my absolute favorite jigging rod is the Bellator one piece MH jigging rod. They are are a solid core graphite rod so they are super strong and light so you can jigging all day.

The weather is getting better and the fish are waiting. It is time to get out there with your friends and family and make some memories!

There was a really good turnout for the meeting today to show support for salmon fishing on the west coast. There were some great speakers there as well and good information on how to get our word out there so they know in parliament how we really feel about our salmon fishing on the west coast. It isn't just a hobby that we can give up. It is a way of life, family traditions, food on our tables, livelihoods, connection with nature and memories made. They have to understand that before it is all given away. Write letters to the fisheries minister, call your local MPs and let them know what salmon fishing really means to you.

One of my highlights from the summer was catching this beautiful chinook first thing in the morning. This was our third fish in the first pass. The gear was on fire this year.

Our coho salmon have arrived in good numbers and our annual rescue operations are in full swing! Unfortunately once again this year our poachers have also arrived. Our facility has been broken into several times already this season and poachers have damaged our trap and helped themselves to a good number of salmon that were staging, ready to be moved upstream of the falls. Apart from the impacts on our annual rescue efforts and the cost of repairs to the facility, these poachers and vandals affect our people - our incredible volunteers - like those shown in this group photo from last year. We are a completely volunteer driven and operated society and this nonsense hits us all directly. 😞
Obviously pointless to remind folks that fishing or harvesting salmon near our facility is illegal, these poachers are well aware what they are doing...instead we'd like to raise awareness that this is happening and ask for your help in keeping an eye on our facility and encourage you that if you have any information regarding vandalism of our facilities or poaching our fish please report it to Fisheries and Oceans Canada. Thank you all again for your ongoing support.

Share with your friends. This was one of the best years that we have had for salmon fishing. There is no need for this. It will hurt so many people. There are businesses and families that depend on this for not just money but for food as well.

URGENT: DFO’s SRKW Closure Plan Cannot Happen

DFO is proposing massive new fishing closures, including Chinook and all-salmon shutdowns starting as early as June 1 across nearly every major fishing area on the BC coast.

Expanded closures from June through November

New Chinook-only bans across SRKW critical habitat

Minimal consultation (Sept 17–Oct 31)

No new science proving recreational fishing harms whale recovery

This plan would wipe out the summer recreational fishery, devastate coastal jobs and communities, and ignore real threats like pollution, noise, and pinniped overpopulation.

We support conservation, but it must be fair, science-based, and balanced.
