The Al MacInnis Sports Centre is home of the Cape Breton West Major Midget Islanders.

Located in the picturesque beach community of Port Hood, the Al MacInnis Sports Centre is the focal point of organized youth hockey serving hundreds of young athletes across the west side of Nova Scotia's Cape Breton Island. The Al MacInnis Sports Centre's goal is to ensure children can play and have fun in a first rate and secure environment with a focus on teamwork and skill development, which a

Named after the local hockey sports legend, the Al MacInnis Sports Centre provides the community of Port Hood and surrounding areas with safe and secure facilities to nurture the development of athletic skills while playing host to an array of community cultural celebrations.

Employment Opportunity

Al MacInnis Sports Centre is seeking to hire a full- time rink attendant for the 2024/25 hockey season. The season runs from the last week in August to the first week of April. The centre offers competitive wages, medical insurance and onsite training. The centre is also looking for a part-time rink attendant

Key responsibilities of the position are as follows:
• Initial start-up of the ice surface
• Operate and maintain ice surface including flooding/scraping with Zamboni and ice edger
• Conduct ice machine maintenance including blade replacement and standard preventative maintenance routines.
• Sharpen skates
• Ensure scoreboard/clock are maintained in working order at all times
• Assist in the training and supervision of part time staff
• Maintain daily records of the arena compressor room and related equipment and record in daily facility log book
• Assist with glass replacement as required
• Ensure all entrances are clear and safe from snow
• Maintain a courteous and professional relationship with team coaches/managers
• Assist with general housekeeping duties during and end of shift

The Al MacInnis Sports Centre, as part of its 20th Anniversary of the Al MacInnis Sports Centre Golf Classic, is pleased to host an exciting Team Building Event for the Quad County Whitecaps and any girls who are playing hockey in the Quad County Zone. Join us on Thursday, July 28th from 10am-12:30pm at the Al MacInnis Sports Centre.

This FREE event will include special guests Troy Ryan - Head Coach, Canadian Women's National Team and Kori Cheverie - Assistant Coach, Canadian Women's National Team. They will speak to the girls about all things HOCKEY, engage in a Q&A, sign autographs and take pictures with their Olympic Gold Medals.

There will also be some fun activities on the arena floor with some of our other guests; Colten Ellis (St Louis Blues Prospect), Nick Mac Neil (Assistant Coach CB Eagles) and Hannah MacDonald (Defense- StFx X-Women).

We will finish up with a BBQ and some great prizes such as an autographed jersey and a free registration for next season.

So make sure the girls show up with their gloves and sticks and any questions they want to ask our special guests. It should be a great morning!
