April 13th Game Recaps
Game #1: Buddha Babes vs. Puckin Divas - 🌸 Spring Has Sprung, and So Did the Buddha Babes! 🌸
As the cherry blossoms bloomed and the smell of playoff dreams filled the air, the Buddha Babes brought the sunshine—and the goals—closing out the season with a 3-0 shutout over the Puckin Divas in this springtime showdown. It was the perfect send-off to a season full of heart, hustle, and a whole lot of hockey.
🌼 First Period – Rocco Gets it Rolling
The opening period saw both teams take to the ice with fresh legs and springtime optimism. The Puckin Divas came out buzzing, with strong zone coverage from #2 Tenisha Rehberg and quick backchecks from #12 Rebecca Colcock. But it was the Buddha Babes who struck first. At the 7:45 mark, #25 Allison Rocco found her opportunity and buried a beauty, giving the Babes a 1-0 lead.
The bench erupted like a confetti cannon—minus the cleanup.
Rocco’s goal set the tone, but the entire Babes lineup was in sync. #10 Lindsay Kelley moved the puck with precision, and #5 Ally Grenier shut down passing lanes like a seasoned pro. Meanwhile, the Divas kept pressing, with #1 Lauren Gibson leading some promising rushes and #16 Jessica Grabell not letting anything slide past unnoticed.
Still, no penalties in sight! Apparently, the teams had made a silent pact: more skating, less sin bin.
❄️ Second Period – The Calm Before the Bloom
The second period had the crowd holding its breath. Neither team managed to light the lamp, but the pace didn’t slow down. Buddha Babes defenders like #4 Jenna Horton and #20 Odie Morningstar were rock solid, sending pucks back up the boards and denying every odd-man rush like seasoned playoff vets.
On the Divas’ end, #23 Kylie Wilson and #8 Alicia Charles did their best to find cracks in the Babes' armor, while goalie #30 Sarah Giles turned away everything that came her way, flashing the glove and keeping her crease cleaner than a spring kitchen.
The fans may not have seen a goal this frame, but the end-to-end action and zero-penalty pace kept everyone on the edge of their lawn chairs—I mean, bleachers.
🌸 Third Period – Wagner’s First & a Kelley Capper
Then came the third, and like the first real warm day of spring, things finally bloomed.
Just 1:37 in, the magic moment arrived. #9 Alex Wagner—who had been buzzing all game—found herself in the right spot at the right time and fired home her first-ever goal. Teammates poured off the bench like tulips in April, and the celebration was as sweet as a scoop of sorbet. Way to go, Alex! First goals only happen once, and this one was a beauty.
With the Divas pressing hard to respond, the Babes held strong. Big plays from #11 Brooklyne Jones, #18 Jayden Cline, and #21 Caitlin Pye helped keep the puck moving in the right direction. And in the final seconds—literally— #6 Alyssa Kelley added the icing to the carrot cake, snapping in a goal with just two seconds left on the clock. Talk about dramatic flair! That buzzer-beater sealed the deal and had the crowd on their feet (and maybe wiping away a proud tear or two).
Final Score: Buddha Babes 3 - Puckin Divas 0
On the Divas’ side, it wasn’t for lack of effort. Their lines kept pushing, and Giles remained composed under pressure. #5 Laura Herbert skated with fire, and #10 Cathleen Iwanowski showed great puck control through the neutral zone. They may not have found the back of the net, but they showed heart until the very last whistle.
💪 Puckin Divas Hold Their Heads High
The scoreboard may not have been kind, but the Puckin Divas played with spirit and sportsmanship from start to finish. The chemistry on the bench, the effort on every shift, and their penalty-free discipline showed that they’re a team full of character. With solid goaltending from Sarah Giles, strong positional play, and a team-first mentality, this is a group ready to come back next season stronger, faster, and hungrier than ever.
🌷 A Perfectly Blossomed Ending
And just like that, the final buzzer marked the end of another unforgettable season. The Buddha Babes wrapped things up with a statement win—great goals, a shutout performance from #30 Faith Asselin (AP), and even a first goal to boot. What more could you ask for?
It was a game filled with sunshine energy, team spirit, and the kind of camaraderie that makes rec hockey feel like a second home. Whether you were scoring goals, blocking shots, or just cheering from the bench, this spring finale had something for everyone.
Until next season, folks—keep your skates sharp, your passes crisp, and never forget to celebrate those little victories (and first goals) along the way. 🌼🥅💖
Game #2 – Hot Stixs vs. The Monty’s - 🌷 Hot Stix vs. The Montys – A Full-Bloom Beatdown to End the Season 🌷
Well folks, spring has sprung, the flowers are blooming, and so were The Montys—on the scoreboard, that is. In this final tilt of the season, The Montys took to the ice with the power of a pollen storm and left the Hot Stix sneezing and scrambling in an 8-4 goal fest. If this game were a garden, The Montys were the lawnmower.
🌼 First Period – Goals Galore and No Allergy Relief
The game opened like a bouquet being hurled at full speed. At 8:26, Montys’ #4 Tianna Crumb lit the lamp with a slick finish, setting the tone early. But Hot Stix came to play— #20 Suze Boge tied it up just two minutes later with a rocket of a shot that had Montys’ goalie #1 Hailey Montgomery blinking in disbelief.
The goal exchange didn't stop there. #8 Andrea Roy-Agro answered back for The Montys at 5:46, only to be countered by back-to-back beauties from Hot Stix’s #7 McKenna Mayes and #18 Jessica Minor. With 3:12 still on the clock, the Stix had clawed out a 3-2 lead, and their bench was chirping like robins in April.
But with just 15 seconds left in the period, #21 Victoria Peebles showed off some serious net-front finesse and tied it up 3-3, reminding everyone that The Montys were just getting warmed up.
Meanwhile, Hot Stix players like #5 Elsa Figueroa and #12 Telina Fishbach hustled hard, disrupting breakouts and making life a little less breezy for The Montys.
🌱 Second Period – Calm Before the Goal-nado
The second frame slowed down in scoring but definitely not in momentum. #14 Jenna Turner gave The Montys the go-ahead goal at 7:41, tipping in a rebound with the grace of a swan and the precision of a gardener planting tulips in straight lines.
Behind the play, #6 Andrea Devries were grinding out defensive zone clears, giving the Hot Stix zero time to breathe. Meanwhile, #18 Kelsey Visser quietly racked up helpers and puck possession like she was hoarding chocolate eggs after an Easter hunt.
Hot Stix’s #2 Ashley Marshall and #4 Ashley Chalmers fought to stabilize things on the back end, and goalie Elizabeth Ritza (yes, pulling double duty as player/staff MVP) stood tall despite the mounting Monty pressure.
🌸 Third Period – Monty Mayhem Unleashed
Then the third happened—and The Montys turned into full-on spring monsters.
#11 Melissa Masterson opened the floodgates at 5:23, finishing off a slick pass from Tianna Crumb. Less than a minute later, Jenna Turner was back at it, notching her second goal at 4:52 (from Visser and Masterson), and then her hat trick goal just 40 seconds later at 4:12. Honestly, if this had been an outdoor game, there would’ve been flower petals raining from the sky.
As if that weren’t enough, Victoria Peebles decided to put an exclamation point on the game with her second of the night at 0:16, giving The Montys their 8th and final goal. Let’s just say, by that point, the Hot Stix looked like they were ready to swap their sticks for lawn chairs.
Final Score: The Montys 8 – Hot Stix 4
Shoutout to Montys’ #5 Kathleen Bartman, #7 Jodi Van Es, and #12 Maddy Schmalz for solid two-way play and some sneaky-good puck movement that helped keep the Stix off balance all game long. And of course, goalie Hailey Montgomery held things down after that wild first period, turning aside every shot in the second and third like a goalie possessed (by spring spirit, obviously).
🐣 Hot Stix Wrap it Up With Heart
The Hot Stix may have been outscored, but not out-hearted. With strong showings from skaters like #9 Jessica Swance, #14 Taylor Chalmers, and #16 Chrishon Gambarotto, they played with grit, laughs, and more high-fives than a kid’s birthday party.
They didn’t get the dub, but they definitely brought the fun—and some quality chirps along the way.
🌷 Final Buzzer – A Season in Full Bloom
And that’s a wrap, folks! The Montys closed out their season like a garden in full bloom—colorful, powerful, and slightly overwhelming if you're on the wrong end of it. Hot Stix gave it their all and went down swinging, skating, and smiling.
Thanks to both teams for a season of epic matchups, surprise goals, and zero penalties (seriously, are you all angels now?). Until next season—stay fresh, stay feisty, and don’t forget to stretch before your next garden hockey showdown. 🏒🌼🌞
Game #3: Poco Peaches vs. The Outlaws - 🌷 The Buddha Cup Blooms in Peach! 🍑
The cherry blossoms weren’t the only things bursting into bloom this spring—so were the Poco Peaches, who staged a stunning third-period comeback to pluck victory from the Outlaws and raise the glorious, golden (okay, silver) Buddha Cup overhead!
This championship had everything: goals, grit, great hair, and not a single penalty. Just good ol’ fashioned spring hockey vibes. Let’s break it down like we’re all sliding on fresh puddles of snowmelt.
🌸 First Period – Outlaws Take the Reins
The Outlaws came out with some serious yeehaw energy. Just 1:30 into the game, #15 Alysia Rivando-Robb found twine with a beauty goal set up by #7 Brooke Fleming and the ever-dangerous #13 Erica Horton.
Peaches’ goalie #30 Kayleigh Carter stood tall like a blossoming daffodil in the face of more pressure, with defenders #2 Terri Steingart (coaching from the bench like a Zen master) and #16 Shelby Cleveland clearing the zone with fierce determination. Contributions also came from #5 Mary Gough and #10 Kristina Lavoie, making sure no Outlaw passed through the neutral zone without a polite spring bump.
🌱 Second Period – Still the Outlaws’ Rodeo
The Outlaws weren’t done planting seeds of doubt. At 1:17, #8 Jen Teal lit the lamp with a silky finish, assisted by #17 Jocelyn Sexton and #14 Kayla White, proving that teamwork blooms best in spring.
Meanwhile, the Peaches’ forwards were generating rushes, with #7 Lia Grande, #13 Brooke Robinson, and #18 Marlee VanHelvert buzzing like bees but just couldn’t get the puck past Outlaws’ keeper #1 Faith Asselin, who was cooler than a cucumber in a spring salad. Outlaws’ defenders like #5 Allison White, #9 Hailey Gifford, #10 Lucy Stoop, and #18 Meighan Sexton kept the Peaches at bay like garden gnomes on patrol.
🌼 Third Period – Peaches’ Blossom Bonanza
Then—just like a late-April surprise tulip—the Peaches bloomed BIG.
At 7:41, #4 Emily Caldwell cracked the scoreboard, finishing a crisp pass from #12 Amy Lloyd and #15 Carrie Gillespie. The Peaches’ bench erupted like someone had just brought iced coffee to a garden party.
At 5:57, Amy Lloyd was back at it, roofing one off a sneaky feed from #14 Kathleen Fenech and Gillespie again, tying it up 2-2 and shifting momentum harder than a windstorm on laundry day.
And with just 43 seconds left in regulation, Amy Lloyd struck again for her second of the night and third point, this time assisted by #17 Kayla Jardine and Caldwell. That’s what we call a full bloom takeover.
The Outlaws scrambled, with their squad throwing everything at the net—including grit from every skater on the roster—but the Peaches held firm behind Carter’s clutch goaltending and some epic team defense. From the bench, coach Terri Steingart may or may not have summoned the hockey gods with her clipboard.
Final Score: Poco Peaches 3 – Outlaws 2
🏆 The Buddha Cup Finds a New Home
As the buzzer rang and glitter (or maybe just glove sweat) filled the air, the Poco Peaches claimed their hard-earned 3-2 comeback victory and hoisted the Buddha Cup like the spring queens they are.
Huge props to the Outlaws for an incredible season, with standout efforts from their scoring leaders and fearless play all around. You don’t make it to the championship without bringing the fire—and they brought it all season long.
But on this magical April evening, the Peaches proved that when spring comes calling, anything can blossom. 🍑🌞🌸
Congratulations to both teams for a spectacular season! Until next year—stay peachy, stay outlaw, and remember: the Buddha Cup shines brightest in the springtime.
