City of Port Alberni waterfront on Somass Mill site. Progressing along

The City’s top priority is to ensure the demolition and remediation process at Somass Lands is carried out in an environmentally responsible way.

Contractors working on site are required to dispose of any harmful or environmentally sensitive material or soil in a responsible manner.

Work at the site is progressing well. Next steps include a final round of remediation and soil testing in advance of applying for a certificate of compliance from the Province of B.C.

The City is committed to achieving the best outcome for the community by carefully remediating this site in preparation for redevelopment.
