MOUNT UNDERWOOD WILDFIRE UPDATE #5 – August 14, 2025
The Mount Underwood wildfire remains dynamic in nature, with conditions that can change rapidly and create unpredictable outcomes. The BC Wildfire Service and the Emergency Operations Centre are working to monitor the situation.
BC Wildfire said the rain may help improve air quality in the Alberni Valley, but it is hard to predict what will happen. To help residents through this tough time, an Air Quality Relief Centre is now open.
For those needing relief from the smoke and heat, the City of Port Alberni, in coordination with the Emergency Operations Centre, has opened an Air Quality Relief Centre at the Alberni Valley Multiplex, 3737 Roger Street, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The centre is wheelchair accessible, has snacks and water, and provides activities for children to keep them entertained during these stressful times.
Franklin River Road, between Port Alberni and the Carmanah Junction, remains closed. Please respect all roadblocks/posted signage and follow the direction of traffic control personnel. The Youbou route remains open as an alternate route out of Bamfield.
