The 2019 World Pond Hockey Championships are in the books!!

After a whirlwind of weather delays to begin the weekend, good fortune came our way, and things came together nicely to make for another amazing World Pond Hockey Championship in Plaster Rock, New Brunswick.

To begin our trip a winter Blizzard handed us 6 cancelled flights, lost baggage and an impromptu road trip at 10pm in a snow storm to make our initial destination in Moncton, NB. From Moncton we rented an RV at Leisure Times RV and travelled to Plaster Rock without baggage, in hopes that we could borrow hockey gear and sticks until our equipment arrived. At this point we did not feel very optimistic that our equipment would arrive at all for the weekend.

However, after arriving in Plaster Rock on Thursday evening with opening ceremonies at 530pm and our first game at 9pm we received fortunate news that Air Canada was delivering our equipment directly to the event and would be arriving at 7pm. Thank you to our neighbouring team Churchill Falls Dusters for lending us a set of jerseys so we could participate and represent Labrador in the opening ceremonies in style.

Shortly after the opening ceremonies our equipment arrived just as promised. The rest of the weekend went off without a hitch thanks to the wonderful volunteers from Plaster Rock.

The small community of Plaster Rock has created an event so unique and well prepared that it draws players and hockey enthusiasts from all around the world. Year after year 100+ teams of 5 emerge in this small New Brunswick community to compete and we would like to thank the countless volunteers and community members for making 2019 another success.

A lot of time, preparation and expense goes into competing each year in Plaster Rock. The sponsorship we have received from the amazing companies within Happy Valley Goose Bay and North West River has helped us represent Labrador to the highest standard for the second year. We hope we can return next year to the World Pond Hockey Championships and represent central Labrador once again at this world class event.

We would like to thank Uncle Erns Meats & Treats, A&W Goose Bay, A&M Construction, Hamilton Stores, TM Auto & CRB Last Stop Garage for your support and help. We wear your logos proudly on our Jerseys.
