Bunker Hill Golf Club is a unique 12-hole par 3 golf course located in the north end of Pickering off Highway 7 between Salem Rd and Lakeridge Rd.
Established in 2016, Bunker Hill features large, undulating greens, large elevation changes and is a challenge to all levels of golfers.
We are seeking the services of a Superintendent for the 2023 season with a start date of March 1, 2023.
This role could be a good fit for an Assistant Superintendent wishing to step up to the Head Superintendent role or for someone wishing to work at a smaller property.
Salary TBD – Commensurate with experience.
Responsibilities:
● Prepare and maintain annual budget for the maintenance and capital improvement of the golf course
● Plan and coordinate all maintenance and project work on the golf course to ensure a high standard
● Train and oversee scheduling of turf maintenance staff
● Manage purchases of maintenance equipment and supplies
● Hands on labour - you will be out on the golf course every day on a machine with the rest of the staff
● Supervise the maintenance and repairing of golf course equipment
● Utilization and maintenance (as required) of irrigation system
● Report to the management team of the golf club
● Respond to internal and external customer inquiries
● Offer professional opinions in the area of turf maintenance as prompted by management team
● Perform other duties as required by the management team
● Proper recording and submission of water taking permit
● Adherence to IPM Protocols
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
● A degree in turf management or equivalent experience
● A minimum of three to five years of golf course maintenance experience
● A minimum of three years supervisory experience
● Knowledge and experience of golf course operation
● Extensive knowledge of equipment, materials, and supplies used in golf course grounds maintenance
● Knowledge of fertility program specific to creeping bentgrass on sand-based greens and Kentucky bluegrass/Perennial ryegrass on natural soil
● Advanced knowledge of agronomy and turf grass management
● Ability to work independently
● Knowledge of proper cultural practices to promote healthy turf
● Strong mechanical aptitude
● Knowledge of the principles to safely operate gasoline and diesel engines
● Proven leadership and human resource skills
● Working knowledge of golf facilities, construction principles and methods
● Knowledge of irrigation operation and water management
● Ability to troubleshoot irrigation, equipment and turfgrass problems effectively
● Excellent communication skills
● Good financial management skills
● A thorough understanding of the game of golf
● Knowledge of Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) and Operational Health and Safety (OHS) practices
● First Aid and CPR certification an asset
● IPM Certification
● Landscape Exterminators License
● Valid driver’s license
