WYOMING CATTLEBARONS TO PLAY FOR OBA TITLE LATER THIS MONTH

The OBA Senior AA baseball trophy will be handed out on September 27th in Kincardine. Tecumseh will take on New Lowell (Barrie-area) at noon on that day with the winner playing the Wyoming Cattlebarons for the championship at 3 p.m.
The 'Barons won a coin toss to advance directly to the final.
The original tournament late last month was shortened due to inclement weather.

SARNIA SPIRIT U14 T1 TEAM SECURES CHAMPIONSHIP

A pair of victories over the Chatham Strikers officially locked up first place and the league championship for the Sarnia Spirit with 5-nil and 2-nil verdicts on the weekend.
"Your hard work, dedication, determination and hustle have truly paid off," said the team on social media.

PORT LAMBTON PIRATES WIN OBA TITLE ON HOME TURF

With players from across Sarnia-Lambton and Chatham-Kent on its roster, the Port Lambton Pirates captured the OBA 16U “B” title on Monday scoring six times in the fourth inning to defeat Simcoe, 11-6 in the decisive contest.
But it took some heroics earlier in the day to even have a chance to reach the pinnacle. Trailing 7-4 in the semi-final, the Pirates pushed across four runs in the seventh inning to beat Mitchell, 8-7 to advance to the championship game.
Manager Jake Lozon, who is now retiring after a dozen years in the dugout, says all 14 players brought something to the table and each was able to contribute a least one hit during the weekend tournament played at Van Damme Park in Port Lambton and Mackenzie Field in Courtright.
Earlier in the tournament, the Pirates topped Orillia, 13-5, downed Kingsville, 10-3 and defeated Grimsby, 12-4.
The Port Lambton roster included players from Port Lambton, Brigden, Sarnia, Wallaceburg, Shetland, Bothwell, Dresden and Blenheim.
Overall, the Pirates ended the season with a record of 37-13.

KiILLER BEES TO FACE TWO FEWER TEAMS THIS SEASON

The Alvinston Killer Bees will not be taking trips to Stratford or Halton Hills during the upcoming Northern Premier Hockey League season.
Following the completion of a league review, the NPHL says the operations of the Irish and Coyotes franchises have been suspended for the coming season and despite the Irish posting that they fully intend on returning to play for the 2027-28 campaign the league says future participation will be subject to its review and written approval.
While not commenting on the specifics of the team suspensions and directing its teams, including the Killer Bees and Strathroy Jets to do likewise, the league says reliable and accountable ownership is essential for the strength and quality of the league.
“As the NPH prepares for the 2026-27 season and beyond, the league remains committed to strong governance, stable operations and responsible long-term growth,” said the league in a recent post on social media.

ICYMI: EXPRESS REACH FINALS AT RECENT YEAREND TOURNEY

The Enniskillen Express under-17 team was a finalist in the recent Lambton Central Girls Softball League yearend tournament. The Express defeated Corunna, 13-5, the Merlin Mavericks, 4-2 and Chatham, 11-6 in the preliminary round but came up just short against the Mavericks in the final by a score of 11-7.
