Cole Ledson Ready For Final Push Towards First Career Ontario Legends Series Championship
COOKSTOWN, ON - A full season of pursuing his first ever Legends championship will come to an end tomorrow afternoon for rising star Cole Ledson.
The younger brother of 3-time series titlist Nick Ledson will enter the season finale a mere 5-points behind championship rival Matt Haufe in the race for the 2016 championship.
"I've managed to try and keep the whole points race out of my head all season, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't feeling the nerves tonight," admits Ledson. "We've just worked so hard for this. My guys have given me great cars every single week - I really want to reward their hard work"
The pair have traded podium finishes all season long, with each competitor managing a pair of feature victories throughout the course of their respective breakout seasons.
When asked his thoughts on Haufe's chances of walking out of the Autumn Colours Classic as series champion, Ledson insists he's not paying much attention to the comings and goings of his opposition.
"I can't control what Matt does - so I'm not going to worry about it," says the rising star flatly. "All I can do is take care of my car and make sure that I'm putting myself in the right situations and make the right decisions"
"That's my job tomorrow. We've been solid all year - but tomorrow is the day that really matters"
After a fantastic season thus far, Ledson can't help but express his gratitude for what's already come his way in 2016 - regardless of how the standings read at the end of Sunday's event.
"This whole season has been an awesome experience," smiles Ledson. "I've come a long way, and I'm proud of what we've accomplished as a team this year"
"No matter how tomorrow ends, we've had a fantastic 2016. I want to win this championship more than anything else in the world, but even if tomorrow doesn't end the way we want it to we're going to walk out with our chin up"
And, on the topic of strategy for Sunday's race, Ledson explains his goal is to keep things as simple as possible.
"We're coming out to hit all of our marks, keep our car at the front and keep Matt in our mirror," says the championship hopeful. "I just don't want to overthink things. The simpler we can keep our strategy, the better off we're going to be."
