The gut and brain are known to be bi-directionally connected. That means the brain can control the gut and the gut can control brain function.

The gut houses a robust immune system, so gut dysfunction can lead to systemic immune activation. Inflammation from the gut can directly impact the brain. The gut is where many neurotransmitters are synthesized. These neurotransmitters are basically brain chemical-messengers. The neurotransmitters are made in the gut but heavily impact the brain.

The brain controls many of our bodily processes including digestion. Mental stress can negatively impact the digestive organs, the motility of the gut and defenses of the digestive tract. These factors can therefore impact the immune system and neurotransmitters.

As you can see it becomes a vicious cycle where the brain can affect the gut and the gut can reciprocally affect the brain.

Did you know that strength training can alleviate pain and increase your energy levels?

Roohie is one of my newer clients. When she first started with me, one of her goals was to alleviate joint pain. We have been able to alleviate some of that pain within as little as two weeks and increased her daily energy levels.

How do you keep yourself accountable?

With another year in the books, I’ve been thinking a lot about setting goals for the year ahead and ultimately, how I can keep myself accountable and achieve those goals.

3 simple steps I use for goal setting are:

1. Be clear and concise: no matter what goals should be specific, with a deadline.

2. Be realistic: goals should push you to grow, but if they feel impossible or you feel like any work you do doesn’t bring you any closer, you may be more likely to give up.

3. Reverse Engineer: once your goal is set, break it down into monthly, weekly and daily goals. This helps the goal feel manageable, and more likely to be achieved.

Or do your goals only exist when they’re convenient for you?

Holidays are one of the primary events that lead to weight gain. It’s okay to enjoy yourself and the holidays, but it’s also important to be mindful of your goals and what you really want.
