Steve Wedgewood

Bally Haly Country Club

Twin Rivers Golf Club

Bio: Steve considers himself to be each of the following in no particular: Insurance Broker, Risk Manager, Volunteer, Amateur Golf Enthusiast, Dalmatian Caretaker, Spousal Unit and Favorite Uncle. Steve was Golf NL's Referee of the Year in 2025.

1. What is your full name?
Stephen but everyone calls me Steve since my Mother passed away.

2. Where were you born? Where do you live today?
I was born at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital, St. John's and still live in St. John's today.

3. What would people be surprised to learn about you?
I worked as a Tour Production Manager for a Concert Promotions company to help pay for my university education at Dalhousie.

4. Are you a member of a golf club and what club?
I am a member of both Terra Nova Resort and Golf community and Bally Haly Country Club.

5. Who do you regularly play golf with?
I regularly play with Jack & Louise McCarthy and Janis Byrne in Terra Nova and Nash Denic, Leigh Puddester and Steve Snow at Bally Haly.

6. What's your favorite course that you have played? What course would you like to play anywhere in the world?
It would be a tie between the old Ballybunion Golf Course in Ireland and Terra Nova (Twin Rivers) Golf Course. I would love to play Pine Valley Golf Club

7. Where and when did you start golfing?
I took a lesson from Bruce Imrie at Bally Haly when I was 10… but couldn’t get a regular game so I switched to baseball. Finally put my lesson to work at Pippy Park’s Captain’s Hill 9 Hole in the late 80’s.

8. Can you (briefly) tell us your most memorable golf experience.
Standing on the First tee of the Old Course in St Andrews for the Rotary International Golf Tournament waiting to hit my first shot.

9. Can you (briefly) tell us your funniest golf experience.
I was playing in an event in BC when one of the guys in my group slipped on the plastic pond liner and fell into a water hazard while trying to retrieve his ball. He started to panic as he slid further down into the pond and was yelling for help and that he couldn’t swim. He was out of reach of our outstretched clubs, so I had to jump into the pond and help him get back to the shore… that’s when I stood up in the pond and found out the water was just above waist deep. Then we had to play the final 2 holes drenched to the bone.

10. What is your greatest golf accomplishment? How do you like to relax?
Getting my Golf Canada National Rules Certification. I like to relax by golfing with my friends.

11. What is your most treasured golf possession?
My Player’s Badge/money clip from the 2011 Bob Hope Classic which was used as my all access pass for events and inside the ropes. The most amazing birthday present ever!

12. What is your best/worst quality on the golf course?
My best quality is I like to play quickly while my worst quality is I like to play quickly!

13. What 3 professional golfers would complete your dream foursome for a round of golf?
Those three would be Lee Trevino, Rory McIlroy and Minjee Lee.

14. What 3 Newfoundlanders, past or present, would you like to join you at a dream dinner?
Without a doubt Gordon Pinsent, Tommy Sexton and Tommy Ricketts.

15. Have you ever had a hole-in-one? What is your best score ever? When and what course?
I had a hole-in-one in October, 2009 on Hole #11 at Terra Nova Twin Rivers - I have the fewest holes-in-one in my household. My best ever score was 70 which I've done twice - from the back tees at Clovelly in 2015 and from the back tees at Terra Nova in 2016.

16. What is your favorite/least favorite golfing hole on a Newfoundland & Labrador golf course?
My favorite hole is Hole #5 at Humber Valley Resort while my least favorite is Hole #17 at the old Bally Haly (I won’t miss it).

17. What do you think is the worst rule in golf and how would you change it?
Stroke and distance for a shot hit out of bounds is harsh. I’d like to see Model Local Rule E-5 implemented as a relief option, drop at the point of OB for 2 penalty strokes. It would speed up play.

18. What advice would you give to a young golfer starting to play golf today?
Play with better players as much as you can and ask questions. Practice the short game around the green the most. Play efficiently.

Spencer Noseworthy

Golf NL Board of Directors

Treasurer

Bio: I am 30 years old and joined the Golf NL Board of Directors in November 2025 as Treasurer. In my day job I work in Finance with Vale Base Metals out of the corporate office in St. John’s. I am a graduate of the Bachelor of Commerce Honours (Co-op) program at MUN and obtained my CPA designation post-graduation. My wife Maria and I met in university, and we got married in June 2025. I have an older sister, Laura, who is an Engineer and lives in Calgary.

Golf is a huge part of my life; it’s definitely a passion of mine (just ask my wife and family). I love to play the game, but I also watch a lot on TV, listen to golf podcasts all the time, and have even gotten into golf course architecture over the last few years. Joining the Golf NL Board of Directors was an easy decision as I could contribute to the governance and growth of the game in Newfoundland and Labrador through my background in Finance.

1. What is your full name?
My name is Spencer Noseworthy.

2. Where were you born? Where do you live today?
I was born in St. John’s, grew up in Mount Pearl and I currently live in Conception Bay South.

3. What would people be surprised to learn about you?
I like to cook, especially when I have lots of time and can make an event out of it.

4. Are you a member of a golf club and what club? Who do you regularly play golf with?
I am a member at Glendenning in St. John’s and I believe 2026 will be my 10th season as a member there. There is a large group of us at Glendenning who all play together. I typically play with some combination of Michael Broders, Stephen Predham, Mitch McGrath, Nick Fowler, Curt Mooney, Mitch Rogers, Bobby Upshall, and Jordan Bourne.

5. What's your favorite course that you have played?
The Royal Dornoch Golf Club in Dornoch, Sutherland, Scotland would be at the top of my favorites list while its probably a popular answer but I would love to play the Old Course at St Andrews in Scotland. I have played the New Course and Jubilee Course there but haven’t been lucky enough to get on the Old yet.

6. Where and when did you start golfing?
I don’t remember exactly when, but my dad is a recreational golfer and got me into the game at a young age. He cut down an old 7 iron and steel shaft 3 wood for me, and I would tag along with him and my grandfather when they played at Grande Meadows or Pippy Park. I played intermittently growing up after being introduced to the game but really began to play a lot when I became a member at Glendenning.

7. Can you (briefly) tell us your most memorable golf experience.
I was able to walk the Old Course with my wife in August 2024 on a nice, sunny day. Our stay in St Andrews fell over a weekend, so on Sunday when the course became a public park, we grabbed a coffee and spent a couple of hours out there.

8. Can you (briefly) tell us your funniest golf experience.
The first time I met my father-in-law we played a round at Humber Valley while visiting him and my mother-in-law on the west coast. Early in the round he told me to keep an eye out for a moose that had been hanging around on the 7th hole. When we got to the fairway on the 7th, he pointed out the “moose” that was in the woods up next to the green. We were still a couple hundred yards away, but I could see the figure he was pointing out and told him I could see it too. Once we got up by the green, I realized it was a large statue of a moose in the backyard of one of the chalets. He got me pretty good and I still hear about that one today.

9. What is your greatest golf accomplishment?
I wouldn’t say I’m a very accomplished golfer. Myself, Michael Broders, Stephen Predham, and Mitch McGrath won Glendenning’s Ironman Scramble last year which is recent so that comes to mind.

10. How do you like to relax?
Spending time at home with my wife Maria and dog Dottie watching movies, sports, etc. I also find golf relaxing, especially when walking an early morning tee time.

11. What is your most treasured golf possession?
The cut down 7 iron and 3 wood that my dad made for me as my first clubs; I still have both.

12. What is your best/worst quality on the golf course?
I typically don’t get too high or too low on the course, which I think is a good quality. When I’m not hitting the ball well the wipey fade usually makes an appearance which is definitely a bad quality.

13. What 3 professional golfers would complete your dream foursome for a round of golf?
They would have to be Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas, and Tiger Woods.

14. What 3 Newfoundlanders, past or present, would you like to join you at a dream dinner?
That’s a tough one. If the dinner is golf related, I would take my dad Dan, grandfather Alec, and father-in-law Carl.

15. Have you ever had a hole-in-one? What is your best score ever? When and what course?
No, I haven’t had a hole in one unfortunately but I have shot 76 a couple of times at Glendenning in recent years.

16. What is your favorite/least favorite golfing hole on a Newfoundland & Labrador golf course?
My favorite would probably be #14 at Humber Valley. Least favorite would be #5 at Terra Nova Twin Rivers.

17. What do you think is the worst rule in golf and how would you change it?
In the professional game, I would change the temporary immovable obstruction relief that players get, especially around grandstands. You shouldn’t get bailed out without penalty for using grandstands around the green as a backboard for approach shots.

18. What advice would you give to a young golfer starting to play golf today?
If you are able, choose to walk while you play instead of riding in a cart. In my opinion it’s part of the experience of playing the game.

Bio: I was born in Ontario and I spent the first 4 years of my life there before moving back to Stephenville Crossing, Newfoundland and Labrador, where my roots and sense of community were strengthened.

I am married and the proud parent of two children, the family being at the centre of my life.

For the past 25 years, I have served as a police officer with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, building a career dedicated to public service, leadership, and community safety. Outside of work I enjoy spending time outdoors, appreciating nature through activities that keep me active and connected to the landscape of Newfoundland and Labrador.

1. What is your full name?
Bradley Lucas

2. Where were you born? Where do you live today?
I was born in Etobicoke, ON and I live in Happy Valley Goose Bay, NL.

3. What would people be surprised to learn about you?
I have never taken a golf lesson and my golf game is all on my own. I started golfing regularly when I was 22 years old.

4. Are you a member of a golf club and what club? Who do you regularly play golf with?
I am a member at Amaruk Golf Club in Happy Valley Goose Bay and I regularly play with my best golfing buddy Scott Russell, and now my son Ryden who is 15. He is really getting into it.

5. What's your favorite course that you have played? What course would you like to play anywhere in the world?
My favorite golf course is We-Ko-Pa Golf Club’s Cholla Course in Fort McDowell, AZ. It’s a beautiful course set in the desert. I would like to play the Augusta National Course in Augusta, Georgia.

6. Where and when did you start golfing?
I tried golfing when I was a teenager growing up in Stephenville Crossing, NL and only played a couple of rounds a year. I bought my first set of clubs for $50. I started golfing regularly when I moved to Fort Simpson, NWT. I met life-long friends there and learned to love the game playing Seven Spruce Golf Club, a 6-hole golf course with sand greens above the 60th parallel.

7. Can you (briefly) tell us your most memorable golf experience.
It was May 9th, 2006 in Varadero, Cuba. I golfed that morning and made my very first Eagle on Hole #10. That afternoon, I married my beautiful wife.

8. Can you (briefly) tell us your funniest golf experience.
During our Biennial golf trip in 2024 at Scottsdale, AZ I was helping a friend look for his ball and then I saw a Rattle Snake. Just about jumped 10 feet off the ground.

9. What is your greatest golf accomplishment?
I’ve only ever played best ball tournaments but 3 years ago I started playing for the Club Championship at Amaruk. The first year I lost in a playoff to my buddy Scott but I’ve won the last two years in a row.

10. How do you like to relax?
Playing golf, traveling and experiencing new things with my family.

11. What is your most treasured golf possession?
My Golf Simulator at my house.

12. What is your best/worst quality on the golf course?
I think my best quality is staying focused and calm under pressure. I like competition.
I think my worst quality is my impatience when waiting to play through.

13. What 3 professional golfers would complete your dream foursome for a round of golf?
They would be Rory McIlroy, Bryson DeChambeau, and Nick Taylor.

14. What 3 Newfoundlanders, past or present, would you like to join you at a dream dinner?
They would have to be Bob Cole, Trent McClellan, and my brother Victor Lucas.

15. Have you ever had a hole-in-one? What is your best score ever? When and where?
I have never had a hole-in-one. Four times I have been within one inch. I have had two on the golf simulator, but they don’t count! I shot a 71 at Amaruk Golf Club, August 2024.

16. What is your favorite/least favorite golfing hole on a Newfoundland & Labrador golf course?
My favorite hole is Hole #10 at Humber Valley Resort. The view is amazing while my least favorite hole is Hole #17 at Harmon Seaside Links. It has a small green and always wind from ocean.

17. What do you think is the worst rule in golf and how would you change it?
The worst rule is not allowing relief from a divot in the fairway. This needs to change. You get penalized for hitting your ball in the fairway.

18. What advice would you give to a young golfer starting to play golf today?
Play as much as possible. Practice. Practice. Practice.
Be confident. Be positive. Never end a session with a bad shot.
