Hi! We are Mark and Ellie from Ireland, and we are about to complete our 31,000km global circumnavigation by bike with 950km across Newfoundland.
We’ll cycle from Channel-Port aux Basques to Cape Spear, where only the Atlantic Ocean will separate us from home.
We’d love the cycling community of Newfoundland to come and join us! The moral support of other cyclists would be so much fun on this last leg of our around-the-world adventure.
It will be such an emotional time to reach the end of 21 months of cycling through 24 countries all around the world.
If you would like to join us, for any distance, be that 5km or 100km, we would love to hear from you! We believe cycling is for everyone.
We would also love to hear from people along our route who could offer us somewhere to sleep, be that a hay barn, space for a tent in the back garden or a spare room.
Send us an Instagram message to our account, or email [email protected] and we can let you know when we’ll be passing through and arrange a rendezvous point.
MORE DETAILS:
We’ll be arriving into Channel- Port aux Basques on either the 16th or 17th of August, and arriving at Cape Spear on approximately the 29th of August. For exact timings or to meet up use the contact details above.
Our route will closely follow the main Trans Canadian Highway but on quieter back roads whenever possible.
You should also consider:
- our gear is heavy so we go slow by the standards of road cyclists. Max speed about 24km/hr on the flat, down to as low as 8km/hr on steep hills! We won’t be racing!
- our set-up is good for some gravel but not for serious off-road and so we’ll be sticking to roads where possible unless there are well-surfaced trails.
- we’re not looking to add extra mileage or climbs on to our last leg: we have challenged ourselves plenty! We’ll be planning an efficient route and sticking to it as closely as possible.
- anyone who wants to come ride with us would do so at their own risk.
