🏀 OBA SEASON RECAP: OHS SENIOR BASKETBALL

The Outlook High School Senior Basketball program is now in its second year back and continues to grow stronger with each season.

This year, the team transitioned to a co-ed roster, bringing together student-athletes from Grades 9 through 12. A strong group of junior players — Zach, Kael, Michael, Mathew, Andrew, and Lauri — contributed valuable energy and development, while senior players Jehu, Cheska, Jesse, Dave, Chris, and Klynt provided leadership and experience throughout the season.

The Blues were coached by Owen Redlick, a dedicated community member with a passion for OHS basketball, alongside assistant coach and team manager Jasmine Akre.

🏀 Season Record: 8 Wins – 9 Losses

The team finished the regular season with a record of 8 wins and 9 losses, earning third place in their conference. In playoffs, the Blues gave a strong effort but came up short against Watrous, finishing with a score of 77–62.

Despite the loss, the season was a meaningful step forward in rebuilding the program. The team’s effort, determination, and growth were evident throughout the year, and the future of OHS basketball continues to look bright.

The team extends a sincere thank you to the coaches for their dedication and to the fans and community members whose support meant so much throughout the season.

🎓 Special recognition goes to graduating seniors Klynt and Chris for their leadership and commitment to the program. The school wishes them all the best in their future endeavors.

Thank you to the coaches, parents, volunteers, and players for coming out to the mini boys exhibition game against kindersley. All the boys played great and showed strong composure against a skilled but inexperienced opponent. Special shout out to our grade 3 boys Hayden, Easton, and Milo for their first mini game! Despite their size they showed a great deal of poise and courage. Stay tuned for more upcoming OBA events!

Tournament Day in Outlook!

Outlook is excited to host our annual Jr. NBA Tournament as we wrap up another great basketball season!

We’ll have 40 games running throughout the day across OES, OHS, and LCBI gyms, with teams traveling in from Kindersley, Rosetown, Central Butte, Eston, Loreburn, and Langham. It’s going to be a full day of energy, teamwork, and fun.

A huge shoutout to our high school athletes who will be stepping up to referee — covering an incredible 80 ref shifts to support the younger players. Such an awesome way to give back!

🥤 Concession will be running all day at OES with lunch, snacks, and drinks available.

These events truly take a village, and we’re so grateful for everyone who helps bring it all together. Come out, cheer loud, and be part of a great day for our basketball community!

🏀 Basketball is Making a Strong Comeback in Outlook 🏀

Saskatchewan youth have always loved sports. Hockey is woven into our culture, while baseball, golf, and increasingly volleyball continue to thrive. But here in Outlook, basketball is experiencing an exciting resurgence.
Many parents in our community remember playing basketball themselves during the sport’s first big wave of popularity in the 1990s and early 2000s, thanks in large part to Ken Smith’s program. That era brought success in the Saskatoon Youth League and at Hoopla, and the passion for the game never disappeared.
As Outlook has grown, so has the number of families eager to pass that love of basketball on to the next generation. A key part of that growth has come through Bryan Akre, who brought the Steve Nash Youth Basketball Program—now Jr. NBA—to Outlook. A longtime advocate for basketball and former Basketball Saskatchewan administrator, Bryan has helped introduce students in Grades 1–6 to the fundamentals of the game for years. That foundation has paid off, with strong participation and success at the elementary, junior high, and high school levels.
Outlook’s younger teams, including the Spuds (Grades 3–4) and Minis (Grades 5–6), have also seen great success competing in Saskatoon Minor Basketball Association leagues. With basketball participation and momentum continuing to grow, the need for a dedicated group to support the sport became clear.
That led to the formation of the Outlook Basketball Association (OBA).
Our mission:
To grow the game of basketball in Outlook by creating and supporting opportunities for kids to play, while also promoting and strengthening our existing school programs.
The board members pictured below have been working behind the scenes since the beginning of winter. Their efforts have included administering the local SMBA program, sharing school basketball schedules, and supporting the Jr. NBA program.
And they’re just getting started.
The OBA hopes to continue expanding opportunities for players of all ages, from early years to adulthood, and to help grow the game in any way possible. If you’d like to meet the board, you’ll likely spot them at the annual Jr. NBA tournament on April 17–18.
