This morning, WAVE took the plunge for something bigger. 🌊

Our young athletes represented WAVE at the Diplomats’ Dip for Swimmable Cities at the NCC River House, joining diplomats, Indigenous leaders, environmental organizations and community leaders on the shores of the Kichi Zībī / Ottawa River.

For WAVE, this one was especially meaningful.

Our connection to the Ottawa River runs deep. During COVID, when pools were closed, the river became our training ground and helped shape the next chapter of WAVE as a swimming and water polo club. Today, it remains a place where our athletes swim, play and compete.

This morning was an opportunity for our athletes to see that leadership extends beyond sport. Protecting clean, safe and swimmable waterways takes advocacy, collaboration and people willing to get involved.

And, of course, being WAVE, we still found time for a few cannonballs. 💦

A big thank you to Coach Fraser for leading the charge. Who better than WAVE’s resident open water king? 👑🌊

6TH IN THE WORLD 🇨🇦🌎

Congratulations to Lu and Yasmine on a strong finish with Team Canada at the 2026 World Aquatics Women’s U18 Championships in Tenerife, Spain.

Canada finishes 6th in the world, improving significantly from 12th at the 2024 U18 World Championships and putting Canada back among the top nations at this age group.

There is still plenty of work to be done domestically as we continue to raise the level of our sport across Canada, but performances like this are an important step forward.

Congratulations Lu, Yasmine, and the entire Canadian team and staff on a strong World Championship. Safe travels home! ✈️

🇨🇦 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS START TOMORROW! 🌎

Capital WAVE athletes Lujayn Abdelfattah and Yasmine Sówka begin their 2026 World Aquatics Women’s U18 Water Polo Championships tomorrow in Spain! 🇨🇦🌊

Canada opens the tournament against Germany at 4:00 AM ET.

Lu and Yasmine have put in countless hours together in the pool, travelling, training and competing to reach this stage. Now they get another opportunity to represent Canada together on the world stage.

We are incredibly proud to see two WAVE athletes wearing the maple leaf and competing against the best in the world.

Good luck Lu, Yasmine and Team Canada! We are all cheering for you back home! 🇨🇦❤️

🇨🇦 This summer, WAVE athletes Caitlin and Nicole had the opportunity to represent Team Ontario in Kelowna, BC as part of the ON–BC Girls Water Polo Exchange.

The week was about much more than just water polo. Along with competing in a friendly tournament, the athletes enjoyed dragon boating, hiking, wellness activities, the Wibit inflatable water park, plenty of ice cream, and, most importantly, building lifelong friendships with athletes from across Canada.

Experiences like these help grow the game while giving young female athletes the chance to create memories and connections that extend far beyond the pool.

We can’t wait to welcome Team BC to Ontario in just a few weeks as we continue this incredible exchange. Safe travels, and congratulations Caitlin and Nicole on representing WAVE and Ontario so well! 💙🌊
