Three legacies worth celebrating.

Kathy Bald 🏊 Kathy competed at the international level for years, earning medals at the 1982 Commonwealth Games and the 1983 Pan American Games, and representing Canada at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul.

Debbie Huband 🏀 Debbie was co-captain of Canada's Women's National Basketball Team and starting point guard at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, where Canada finished fourth. A three-time U SPORTS All-Canadian and member of both the Canadian Basketball Hall of Fame and the Basketball BC Hall of Fame.

Steve Yzerman 🏒 A Nepean native who became one of the greatest players in NHL history. Steve captained the Detroit Red Wings for 20 seasons and won three Stanley Cup championships.

Congratulations to the Class of 1987.
Their legacy lives on at the Wall.

Capital Wave Swimming and Water Polo is a member of the Wall of Fame.

Capital Wave is an Ottawa-based club that formally integrates swimming and water polo within the same organization.

Their 'Splash Polo' program introduces younger athletes to the sport, while older groups train and compete in provincial and national water polo events.

The Nepean Sports Wall of Fame Class of 1986 is one for the ages.

Five extraordinary athletes. Five remarkable careers.

Doug Frobel ⚾ Outfielder who appeared in 268 Major League games with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Doug Frobel Park in Nepean is named in his honour.

Mike Nemesvary ⛷️ Four-time Canadian freestyle skiing champion and World Cup aerial silver medalist. After competing, he performed stunts in the James Bond film A View to a Kill.

Phil Takahashi 🥋 Two-time Olympian. Nine-time Canadian judo champion. Pan-Am gold medalist. World Championship bronze medalist. After retiring, he taught judo, karate, and other martial arts.

Tina Takahashi 🥋 Eight-time Canadian judo champion. First Canadian to win gold in international judo at the 1984 World University Games. Canada's first women's Olympic judo coach in 1988. First Canadian woman to achieve the rank of roku-dan.

Eric Upton 🏈 Offensive lineman who won five consecutive Grey Cup championships with the Edmonton Eskimos. A CFL Western All-Star and Vanier Cup champion with the University of Ottawa.

The Nepean Sports Wall of Fame dates back to 1985.

The first class of inductees included five outstanding athletes:

• Marc Olesen — Sub-4-minute miler and international medalist
• Patrick Burrows — Field Hockey Olympian and Pan Am gold medalist
• Janet Morrissey — Canadian Figure Skating Champion
• Cathy Merritt — Record-setting swimmer and national champion
• Ray Takahashi — Three-time Olympian and 16-time national wrestling champion

These athletes helped set the standard for excellence that continues today.
