Hey Stittsville, trying to gauge interest in if residents would there be interested in attending free bike maintenance seminars around the local parks of Stittsville.

Our group Let's Bike Stittsville advocates for better cycling infrastructure and trying to get people out of cars and use more sustainable transportation such as cycling.

One of the barriers I think people have to cycling is they are not sure how to keep a bike maintained or what to in an emergency such as a flat tire. We are contemplating hosting free workshops at local parks to show the basics of bike repair and maintenance.

Would this be something of interest? A social ride could also follow to explore the great areas of Stittsville that you never get to see from a car.

Free seminar coming up regarding Cycling rights. I attended this once before and David Shellnut (the Biking Lawyer) is full of fantastic info on how to keep yourself covered in the event you are involved in an incident or have a police interaction.

Learn about your rights and entitlements as a cyclist.

A wonderful morning boat ride!

The great thing about biking is there is so much joy.
Despite the flooding, this ride is so much more peaceful & pleasant, than lunatic drivers, stuck in traffic and pi**ed about parking.

Enjoy the Corkstown Creek!

It's time we changed that. Cars kill communities. It's time for more public green space, not roads.

Cars are expensive. Both individually and as a society. Eyeballing the numbers this years infrastructure costs which totals ~915M.

Works dedicate to cars is ~48% (~443M).
That is a lot of tax payer money subsidizing car use.

7.7M towards sidewalks and paths (0.8%)

I thought the aim of this new municipal council was to establish a balanced approach? A Cities priorities and regard for its residents are found in its budget:

Just friendly reminder with the average price of a new car is up 42% over the past 3 years. Gas prices are up 36% year-over-year.

The cost of a good bicycle is the equivalent of filling your tank a few times. A good pair of shoes is the equivalent of filling your tank once.

Want a better, healthier and more sustainable way to get around town. Try cycling or walking.

Found a nice graph that shows the carbon emissions per passenger km by transportation modes. Consider picking a mode that not only reduces your impact on the environment, but also city infrastructure and your own personal health. FYI - private vehicle use is not the answer.
