📢 Notice from Phoenix Taekwondo Academy

Please note that Phoenix Taekwondo Academy will be closed on Friday, April 3rd (Good Friday) and Monday, April 6th (Easter Monday).

Students are welcome to attend any other day during the week to make up for missed classes.

🔥 2026 Canadian National Championships – Halifax 🔥

Last weekend, Taekwondo Canada hosted the 2026 Canadian National Championships in Halifax, and we couldn’t be more proud of our Phoenix Taekwondo Academy athletes and their outstanding performances.

🏆 Junior Nationals (Ages 14–17)
🥇 Junior Female -55kg – Mackenzie B
🥈 Junior Female -42kg – Sarah I
🥈 Junior Female -44kg (Youth Olympic Games Team Trials) – Sarah I

🏆 Senior Division (Ages 17 and above)
🥇 Senior Female -73kg – Alexandra C
🥇 Senior Female -67kg – Leonarda A

🌎 What’s Next?
Mackenzie will represent Canada on the Junior National Team at the 2026 Junior World Championships in Uzbekistan later this year.

Alexandra and Leonarda will join Laila Khan and Ethan McLean (who did not compete due to injury but secured their spots through 2025 international results) on the Senior National Team, representing Canada at the 2026 Senior Pan American Championships in Brazil.

Phoenix Taekwondo Academy has 4 members on the Senior National Team this year, which is the highest number of Senior National Team members in Canada in Olympic Taekwondo.

Phoenix Taekwondo continues to place athletes at the highest level in Canada — and now on the world stage. Phoenix Taekwondo is the only Taekwondo club in Ottawa since the mid-80s to have athletes or coach on the Senior National Team in Olympic Taekwondo.

🔥Congratulations to Phoenix Taekwondo Academy athletes/instructors Leo Andric and Laila Khan , who have officially qualified for the Sport Canada Athlete Assistance Program (AAP) — better known as Olympic carding.🔥🇨🇦🥋

Based on their dominance and results from the past international competitive season, Leonard and Laila have been identified by Taekwondo Canada and Sport Canada as Olympic-potential athletes, placing them firmly on the pathway to Team Canada at the 2028 Olympic Games and beyond.

This isn’t just a title. It means:
✔️ They are paid to train as professional athletes
✔️ Access to a funded Integrated Support Team (nutritionists, sport psychologists, strength & conditioning coaches, and more)
✔️ Helps paying for University education tuition— which, ironically, they already have covered through academic scholarships 😏

On top of that, both have also been awarded the Government of Ontario’s "Quest for Gold" funding, further stacking the deck in their favor as they chase excellence at the highest level of the sport.

The journey is just getting started.
