Born in Prince Edward Island, MacInnis grew up like most kids in Canada being surrounded by a passion of hockey and baseball. But even at the young age of 6, MacInnis was always drawn to watching the strong men of gymnastics seemingly fly through the air on his TV screen and decided that’s where he wanted to hang his heart. After years of training upward of 15-20 hours every week, MacInnis became

a leading athlete for gymnastics on PEI, competing at his first Canada Winter Games in 2003 and moving forward to represent his province at 7 Canadian National Championships. Viewed as “one of the strongest, fittest and most flexible” gymnasts in PEI history, MacInnis used these skills to earn a spot as the first PEI gymnast to ever compete in event finals on pommel horse at National Championships. In 2011, MacInnis retired from competitive gymnastics and started coaching recreational gymnasts ranging in ages from 4-60 as well as competitive National level gymnasts. His passion for working with others and helping them improve their skills made for a natural transition as he pursued a career as a youth counsellor. Studying at Holland College, he moved to Ottawa to expand his knowledge and began working with high risk and troubled youth. Now, as founder of “Alexkazam Gymnastics” MacInnis has combined his gymnastics skills and coaching experience to form a unique blend of gymnastics and crossfit. Having trained and coached with some of Canada’s top Crossfit athletes at Crossfit NCR, he continues to grow as a coach and learning from other perspectives and coaching styles from around the world.

Some random OG tumbling videos!

We’re excited to be expanding the schedule and growing the team this summer. We’ve added a tumbling level 2 class to the weekly schedule:

Thursdays @ 8:30pm

If you’re not sure if you’re ready for level 2 tumbling, please refer to the class goals and prerequisites listed on the website for this class.

Tumbling is a high demand high impact class on the body. You should be excelling in the tumbling level 1 classes as well as the rest of the program before attending this class. 🐒🤸🏻💪🏻

Respect your body and respect the process.

The amazing thing is we’ve had many adults without gymnastics experience that make their way to this class over the years and it’s a huge reward after the work is done.

If you’re not sure if you’re ready for level 2 tumbling, reach out to a tumbling coach. 🙌🏻

One of our favourite yearly traditions is back 😎

An opportunity to get out of the gym, enjoy the sunshine, build community, hang with new friends, and of course… do some handstands in the tulips.

Whether you’ve been at Kazam for years or just recently joined, everyone is welcome. Bring a friend, bring a snack, bring your kids, and come enjoy a chill afternoon with the community outside the gym walls.

Three handstand tuck variations all with different purposes and areas of focus. 🧐

1. Tucked Handstand - Head In
2. Tucked Handstand - Deep
3. Tucked Handstand - Bendy

Each one of these shapes have their own challenges and will expose different weaknesses in the shoulders!

The goal at this level of training is to continue finding joy in the training, playing with different elements, while also continuing to work the weak link areas. That’s how we progress!

Strong finish to the planche work in December!

Here you can see members using the band to assist them with their holds. The key here is the band is “assisting” and not doing all the work.

If you have a tuck planche you’re working towards open tuck. Or open tuck to diamond for example.

Often you will see people doing straddle or full assisted place work who have no means of doing those progressions.

Straight arm strength this month will be focused on front levers and human flags.
