What a privilege to work with the project management professionals at Axxys Construction Group.

We gathered at their Montreal office and kicked off our 6-month leadership development engagement with Leadership Presence.

We explored what makes a great leader, what doesn’t, reflected on when they might be both and why. We also had a lively discussion about trust, what it means, how we measure it and how individual ‘trust’ is.

That and so much more.

They came in hot...

One of my greatest privileges is helping clients remember their true, authentic selves when they're under stress.

It's been a busy morning at Rethinkery HQ.

Just past noon, I've already had three client sessions, each with different goals, ranging from managing relationships and priorities to regulating emotions during tough times.

We all have triggers that activate our best and worst behaviours under stress, and I don’t suggest ignoring or dismissing them, but I do have opportunities to help clients recognize early signs and develop strategies to reconnect with their authentic selves, enabling them to demonstrate those behaviours to their teams.

The behaviours your team remembers most aren't the ones you planned; they're the ones that show up when you're under pressure.

You know that feeling...

You're doing all right, or, at least, that's what you tell yourself.

The job is fine.

Life looks good from the outside. But there's a low-grade hum in your mind that something's wrong; you just can't put your finger on it.

You're not in a crisis. You're just... not clear.

Not knowing what you really want, what you would do if you gave yourself permission to want it, and whether the you showing up every day is the real you or just the convenient, performing you.

You're good enough to go on with and smart enough to realize “keep going” doesn’t mean living intentionally.

You might even be tired enough that the idea of someone actually helping you sort through it, without judgment, without an agenda, sounds less like a weakness you thought it was before.

Turns out that's coaching.

I survived week 2 of MAL-EX with RRU.

Here's what I'm doubling down on (from the literature) and what I taught Piper, who's now ready for a w. a. l. k.:

1. Values aren't a declaration. They're a pattern. Which means the gap between who we say we are and how we actually show up is measurable. Uncomfortable? Yes. Useful? Absolutely.

2. Three frameworks. One insight. Values aren't what you say they are; they're what your behaviour reveals. Barrett, Hall, and Blackstock all agree on that, even if they speak different languages.

3. You can't think your way into better leadership. You have to live your way there.

And this is why I love coaching leaders and why coaching is so important. The real work is in closing the gap between who we say we are and how we show up, and no one can do it alone. NO ONE!

ProSocial behaviours—the ones demonstrated so easily and generously by Artemis II crew—is the only way humans have survived and evolved.

In the last couple of decades, we’ve witnessed and been part of the tolerance, acceptance and reinforcement of anti-social behaviours in all aspects of life - work, home, sports, entertainment, politics, etc.

This is how we’ll end civilization.

But, and there’s always a but, we have moments like Artemis II to remind us that prosocial is better. We don’t need metrics and KPIs to identify it and feel it.

It’s in our DNA.

I’m feeling a smidge of hope.

Saw a post on Instagram suggesting we are so emotionally involved with the Artemis II mission because these astronauts, scientists and engineers are showing us intelligent people working together to do difficult things. We ache for that right now. They are reminding us it is possible. This resonates.
