Have you ever noticed a horse moving its muzzle toward you? ๐Ÿด

Horses use their sense of smell to gather information about the world around them. We often remind students that horses don't have hands to feel things like we do. So they can use their nose instead! They recognize other horses, identify people, and investigate new objects using their noses & whiskers.

Our students also seem to love getting pictures of our horses noses! ๐Ÿฝ ๐Ÿ“ธ
(To be fair, they're very cute!)

Most riders think improvement comes from doing more: more riding, more schooling, more correcting, more time in the pen. But, the riders who often place higher are not always the ones doing the most. They are the ones doing the right amount at the right time. AQHA World and Congress Champion Trainer...

One of the most important skills a rider can learn isn't cantering or racing around barrels, it's patience!

Horses learn through repetition and clear consistent communication. Horses can't be rushed and neither can the learning process! Enjoy every step of the way. Riding isn't just about reaching our big goals it's about every moment that leads us there.

One of the parts of the rider position that is often overlooked is the rider's head & eyes. However this is a very important part of a good position.

Where you look is often where you'll go. When riding, your horse can feel subtle changes in your body position. Looking ahead towards the direction you want to go in is felt by your horse!

Keep your eyes up and watch your communication with your horse become a lot more clear. ๐Ÿดโœจ๐Ÿ‘€

Did you know that a good ride starts before you ever get in the saddle?

๐Ÿชฎ Grooming your horse allows you to check for cuts, swelling, loose shoes, or anything unusual before a ride. It also helps build trust and strengthens your partnership with your horse.

๐Ÿ˜Š Coming in with a positive attitude will translate to your ride. Horses are very good and telling if you're upset or stressed.

๐Ÿ•ฅ Taking your time to groom and tack up will ensure both you and your horse don't feel rushed. Relax and enjoy the process.

At Royale Ranch, we believe horsemanship is about much more than riding! It's also about understanding and caring for our horses! ๐Ÿด๐Ÿ’œ

Fun fact! ๐Ÿดโญ
Horses can move each ear independently!

A horse's ears are one of their most important communication tools. Ears pointed forward usually means they're interested and paying attention. Horses will also turn their ears in the direction they're listening too.

Learning to read your horse's body language is a big part of good horsemanship!
