Starting a segment on here called “Tip Tuesdays”. Today we are talking about front crawl/freestyle!
No matter what you call it, this is by far the most standard form of swimming and often the first step into full body strokes. Here are four tips to keep in mind while in the water:
🌊Body Position: Our body position in the water is crucial in any stroke as it allows us to move through the water more hydro dynamically. Without this streamlined position, we are creating more drag, slowing us down and forcing us to use more energy to propel through the water.
🌊Kicking: Our kick is the foundation to any stroke. It allows us to keep that horizontal body position, thus moving us through the water more efficiently. By kicking with straight legs, we are able to harness more power with each kick.
🌊Straight Arms: It is crucial to reach and pull with straight arms as it allows us to be the most effective in the water. Similar to our kick, by reaching and pulling back as far as we can, we are able to generate the most power and move further with less effort.
🌊Rolling Head: Rolling our head while breathing is important as it allows us to keep that streamlined position in the water. As mentioned earlier, our body position in the pool is a make or break when it comes to the amount of drag we create. By rolling our head to the side as opposed to lifting it up, it enables us to stay the most streamlined while breathing.
