Orangeville Tora Judo The ORANGEVILLE TORA JUDO CLUB is a local non-profit Judo Club. Founded by George Bell and Mike Reeves. It has been in operation since 1977. What is Judo? Age?

The club is currently run by Pat Leonard. Judo was derived from the art ju-jutsu by a scholar named Jigoro Kano in 1882. The Japanese word "Judo" literally means the "gentle way". Balance, timing, strategy, and tactics are essential characteristics of this sport as the intent is to use your opponent's strength and momentum to your advantage. It teaches combat without violence. In 1964 Judo became

an Olympic Sport. Values of Judo
One of the distinguishing aspects of judo is how its basic values and principles translate into usable life skills. These values include: Playing by the rules, Co-operation, Respecting Self & Others, Self-discipline & Humility, Self-confidence & Commitment, Perseverance & Determination, Concentrating and Controlling emotions. Anyone over the age of 6 can learn Judo. (Younger students are possible if a parent is also attending the class)

What to Wear? Usually a judoka wears a Judo Gi, but older loose fitting clothing - ie: track pants and long sleeve shirt can be worn to give judo a try. Do not wear jewelry or any other hard objects. Where? Orangeville District Secondary School in the lower (front) gym

When? Monday & Thursday evenings - 6:30 - 8:00pm

Cost? One lesson is free to try. If interested in joining Judo, the cost for the year (September to May) is $160.00 for a Junior and $180.00 for a Senior. As judo is an individual sport, it does not matter if a student joins partway through the season as they will learn and advance based on their own knowledge. Apologies for the late notice but we’re happy to share that we will be returning to the mats for the season this coming Monday September 19, 6:30-8pm at Orangeville District Secondary School in the lower gym! Class times and dates are the same Monday & Thursday from 6:30-8pm.

Hello everyone!

An unfortunate most recent update from the school-board means no judo at the highschool for a bit longer.
But!
Thankful to again be able to offer Sunday class at noon at the Orangeville dojo though. 12:00-1:00pm with an hr of open mat time after.

My apologies for this all and will be working to try and get more mat time moving forward and will be sure to let you know of any updates asap.

Hello everyone,
just wanted to put a friendly reminder about Sundays judo class, that is open to all adult members 12-1pm at the Orangeville Dojo, 10 second street, under Arts hair salon. There is also an “open mat” time after from 1-2pm for randori/practice that you are all welcome too attend if you’d like as well.

Hello Wonderful people,

Apologies for not posting anything in too long, nothing changed for us with the school board so I didn’t want to get hopes up as I navigated that. But I am happy to let everyone know community use (after hrs use of gym) is opening back up at the highschool! They are starting off with youth and children only with plans to include adults in the coming weeks. I am currently in direct conversation with the coordinator about our program/permits and will post further about Start dates and class times ASAP!

In the meantime I am also going too be teaching a Judo class on Sundays at the Orangeville Dojo (located under Arts hair salon, across from Town hall/td bank). It will run from 12-1pm and anyone is invited that should so want to come out and train.

At the moment it will be adults only at the Sunday class, and free of charge with both those things being subject to change as we get everything back in order and to some sort of normal.

Looking forward to getting back on the mats! Any questions feel free to shoot me a message!

Hello all,

Just wanted to make a post for anyone interested in our club or members who might have missed the email our season has now been officially put on hold until further notice from the school board to allow them to better figure out their new Covid protocols and procedures before community usage can start again. Happy Monday!

Here’s a small workout to start the week on a good foot!

50 skips with a jump rope
-or if you don’t have a rope:
10 jumping jacks
10 high knees
10 “butt kicks” (lifting your heel to your butt)

10 push ups
10 sit ups. Repeat all x 3
10 squats

10 lunges
10 military planks (pushing up to hands from elbow in plank) - or 30 second plank if shoulder issues.
10 leg raises (lying on back lifting both legs until 90 degree bend at waist.)
Repeat all x 3

Don’t forget to stretch and scale up or down the reps as needed.

Also if anyone is interested In Attending the zoom bjj classes being offered by my instructors here is the code for tonights class (I will not be teaching tonight). If you are interested Please sign in with your name as they will not let in unknown users.
